One half of me is seeing bargains.

The other half is thinking it'll go much lower if things kick off in Ukraine.

    You and everyone else 😑

    - Short sellers

    - Delays to FDA reviews due to covid.

    - BOD giving options at 49 pence

    - Whole Bio-Tech sector getting hammered

    - Poor investor relations

If hindsight were foresight Etc. Etc. There's not much point in selling now imo, most bad news has well and truly been factored in at this stage. Hopefully MRX0518 can go to phase III in 2022, if that happens it could rerate quickly, could also be a Merck buyout in that scenario?

I'm down 64% on this one now, a dog of a stock, Exactly why I have / you need a balanced portfolio

WTF happened in the last hour of the market?

I was expecting to be down 3% or so and logged in to see only down 0.9% today. S&P finished in the green.

One negative is I sold NET at breakeven price. I thought it was gonna tank today and didn't want yet another red stock. lol. It's a 10% swing from when I sold it to what it ended at. But sure who knows what tomorrow will bring.

What a day! Finished up a little bit. Was wondering just how bad a day it could be. Rollercoaster resets tomoro but that was mad day.

With degiro when selling why would Total figure on email notification be more than is shown in app. The app seems to be including extra charges that I can't see...

Also why does IB ask for your employer when signing up...

Not sure about your degiro question, but lots of financial institutions ask for employment details when signing up. I was unemployed when I signed up with IB and it was fine.

Think you're mixing up a few things with the "people who make money in stocks are low" line

    • The amount of day traders who make money is shockingly low.
    • The amount of professional investor who beat the market it shockingly low.
    • The amount of professional investors who make money is high (ie most grow at least 0.1% in a period)
    • The amount of people who buy and hold stocks (ie not day trading, or holding for less than 30 days) who make money is high

    Absolutely.

And impatient investors panic and sell at a loss.

Warren Buffett has said that investing is basically the transfer of wealth from the impatient to the patient".

Anyone have thoughts on POSCO (PKX), they appear to be undervalued and Munger is holding a bit of their stock.

Tesla results out at close today, will be interesting how the price reacts in these strange times.

The good MSFT results seem to be giving the market a bit if a lift today, for now

Go on a bit of a spending spree with another two lumps of cash left for over the coming weeks

Heavy on Amazon, Google & Shopify with a good sprinkling on everything else. Opened up position in SMT and Nike also, brings me to 30 stocks and capping it at that after a lot of messing in first full year chopping and changing.

    What's everyone thinking with Spotify?

It appears they're going to pull Neil Young's music and side with their guy Joe Rogan, leading to a lot of backlash online.

Share price is currently sliiiiding from over $300 in November to 170-odd today.

Worth going in or waiting a few days for the dust to settle?

Unless they are developing some new product in the background that will be ground breaking I just don't see the value in it...a company with 8bn in revenue and 172m premium subscribers and can't turn a profit.

    LOL!

She's got Irish blood has Cathie. Her parents are Irish.

They're making strides to become a podcast developer at the moment, bought a few platforms recently that produce podcasts, and another one in Dec that turns radio into Podcasts. That's their angle, get a cut out of every podcast wherever it's broadcast. For me it's a bet that Podcasts are the big thing in media. From my own podcast consumption at the moment they're not wrong

Does that really have the potential for strong growth in their already large user base? I mean, if you listen to podcasts, you probably listen to streamed music already.

I think another angle for them is at some tipping point level, they will slowly turn the screw on the free accounts and push them to paid subscription , assuming that's better margin compared to advertising. They could still have advertiser sponsored podcasts so not closing the door on ads entirely.

I believe they have a strong enough MOAT though, Spotify is almost a verb for streaming music even with apple and other players in the space Spotify are the headliners. Neil Young could have potentially started a battle that could go against them but I'm with them for the war!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,618 ✭✭✭Shedite27

It doesn't have to grow the listener base. They now get a cut out of the making of most podcasts. They also now get a cut of of podcasts made by their software and listened to on Apple Podcasts. The growth of Spotify is now linked to the growth of the Podcast industry

Is the new trend of red all day, green at close set to continue? Refreshing change from the green all day, red at close experienced most days last year.

Still can't tell if this is just another blip on the Nasdaq map or if it's a sign of a rough year to come. Powell naively feels everything is priced in already. Will be DCAing into an ETF regardless.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,820 ✭✭✭✭Supercell

Yep, everything is too volitile, I am DCA'ing into IT's at the moment and taking the long term view (dont want to look at the short term returns :D !!). Its better for my ticker (ba dum tish!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,235 ✭✭✭Pussyhands

Could be a flat year. Average S&P return is something like 9%.

The last 5 years it's returned 19% average (incl. dividends)

They say if it sounds too good to be true, it is. It surely can't be that easy to make 20% return a year? If 20% was the norm, if you put 100k in you'd get 250k after 5 years. After 10 years you'd be a millionaire.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 238 ✭✭TalleyRand83

It'll probably be a minus year, bit of a reckoning after pandemic, QE, interest rates etc I suspect but a great time to nip away and increase value of portfolio.

I hope so because that's my plan until the cash runs out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,251 ✭✭✭massdebater

That 9% is after inflation though, which is probably not far off where it's been over the last couple of years.

Don't forget this Steven Oliveira guy. He owned a huge % of 4D and Forte Biosciences and Forte went tits up so he's left needing to sell his 4D shares to cover his losses basically flooding the market with 4D shares.

They're in acquisition territory now. 22m customers, most stockbrokers would love to get their hands on that
