Card security not responding for 2+ hours, stuck abroad with blocked debit card, and running out

Get someone to transfer money to you via Western Union or similar.

If its an AIB card , you need to make sure you have the app on your mobile especially when abroad.

You have to make sure that you have SCA set up, this can be done by 2FA - 2 Factor authentication.

What bank are you with?

What country are you in? City? Airport?

I will check as another poster mentioned, Western Union Money transfer sounds like a good idea to me.

You must have friends or family you can use Whats App anywhere in the world, wont cost you anymore credit.

You have wi-fi where you are I presume?

How did you get stranded at Abu Dhabi?

Did you have a ticket for a missed flight?

You can change the dates on the ticket for a small fee?

Also ring your Embassy for consular assistance in the morning.

You made a mistake, if you missed the connecting flight with the carrier and you bought the ticket for the same carrier or same airlines.

And you bought the 2 legs of your trip as a one ticket , the airline should have re-booked you to the next available flight.

You should not have waited for a cheaper flight, thats just my opinion.

If you’re in a hotel you could ask to use their phone (they may well tell you to go shite ofc).

If you need cash in a hurry your best bet is 100% western union or you could setup a reovlut since you’re likely to have your passport and it takes no time at all. Someone at home is almost certain to also be with Revolut & even if not can add money to anyones account using revolut.me.

Then you can add a virtual card to your Apple Pay/Google Pay if you have them. This may not be much use to you but the main advantage of the virtual card is you can book your flight home online— then if you need cash til you’re leaving you could use WesternUnion, the reason I suggest this two halves approach, WU is not the cheapest when sending larger amounts, fees on both ends may be significant. Also, if the clerk or online fraud detection is suspicious they may refuse to send the money, not much a concern with smaller amounts.

Sorry to hear about what happened— I was stranded in the states for a day and a half with $20 to my name cos I ran out of cash and my flight was delayed. I’m not sure what to do about the card being blocked, your best hope is to try ring again. If they’re open 24/7 (should be?) ringing at late night/early am hours Irish time is best because they’re not as likely to be busy so shorter hold times.

I don’t think you quite understand me. Revolut has nothing to do with Bank Of Ireland.
