Importing slurry

It will only give you the figures until the end of October. You will have to calculate how many kgs are been produced on your farm for November and December. Here is a link (PDF file) to DAFM site showing kgs/hd/day for dairy cows, sucklers, 2yo etc. Log onto Agfood, click on AIM (animal identification and movements), then View Herd Profile you can then select the tab "date of birth" and it lists the cattle in your herd in age order. It makes it easier to calculate the nitrates doing it that way but be careful of animals that are going from one category to another, iykwim.

The amount of organic N is 170kgs per hectare and that includes dung deposited by the animals during the grazing season. Apologies, I didn't realise that the link didn't work. Here is a screenshot of the amount of N produced by each category of animal per age. You can google "kgs of nitrogen per livestock unit in Ireland" and it will show both DAFM and Teagasc explanatory notices.

The amount you can import in 2021 is based on your nitrates from 2020.

Sorry to correct you but it is based on your nitrates from 2020. It changed 2 years ago.

I'm fairly sure that is not correct.

What was changed 2 years ago is the meal used is now based on the prior year i.e. 2020 (which you need for calculating phosphate allowances).

Stocking rates are still based on the current year, not the prior year.

What does PO allowance mean - is there a figure per hectare like there is for organic N?.

We don't import or export slurry but I always keep an eye on our NPH figures in case we run too close to our allowance. The only chemical fertilizer that we buy is a few bags of 10-10-20 that is spread on the GLAS WBC after seeding.

Feck, I thought keeping the organic N figures for the BEAM scheme was a full time job.

Some people could get badly caught out if importing slurry based on the current years stocking as opposed to the previous years. For instance if someone was say 170Kg/N/Ha in 2020 and have a lower stocking in 2021 say 120Kg/N/Ha they might think in error that they could import slurry in 2021 where as the case is they can't without incurring a penalty. So those importing slurry be careful.
