Travelling back to Ireland

Hi,

I'm hoping to get a little clarity on this since we are now asked to produce a test result upon arriving back In short, I'm due to fly to Gran Caneria on 16th dec and return on 21st. The hotel can arrange for PCR test before we fly home. If that test comes back as positive — in theory, could I still travel home as I don't believe airlines are requiring proof of negative test, only proof of vaccination? Clearly I don't want to be stranded over there for Christmas, so I'm weighting up the options and trying to assess the information as it currently stands.

Why even ask this question - no way you should get on a plane if your positive. If you are worried about having to stay over there for Christmas stay in Ireland and don't travel - simple as that.

I probably won't travel, but wanted to be clear on the facts. I think the answer to my question is — the airlines do not require test results but it will be checked upon arrival back in Ireland.

I believe that airlines do check the PCR Cert. it’s the travel locator form that’s checked at immigration.

You won't be allowed board the plane without proof of a professionally taken negative test.

And to answer your question. Yes people can be very thick and will get on a plane.

Had a housemate who displayed symptoms, self diagnosed himself as not having covid and off he went to use public transport with his "flu", like the flu was ok to spread.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if someone continues on knowing they are positive.

Well, if it was the difference between getting home for Christmas or not (via a plane full of fully vaccinated people) I honestly wouldn’t think twice about it. It’s why we all got vaccinated — to “live” with it.

How do you know they're all vaccinated? You could infect an older person or immunocompromised and even if they are vaccinated they could have a bad outcome.

So an earlier post you said you wouldn't and now you're saying you would. Missing Christmas isn't the end of the world.

And getting the vaccine only lessens the symptoms. You can still get very sick with this. How are you ok with spreading covid like that?

Nah, I wouldn’t put myself in that situation so I won’t be traveling. But if I did have to make a call like that having been away and i needed to get back for Xmas, funeral, etc I wouldn’t think twice about it. That’s all

OP, apart from all other objections, when you will check in, you will have to declare that you are Covid free, don't have symptoms or not being in contact with infected person, so you would commit crime boarding a plane in such situation and lying in your form.
