    Hi folks,

Just posting to highlight a new channel I've created on Youtube.

You may find some of the videos interesting, todays one was a drive and opinion on a 1997 Toyota Celica ST202.

Would be interested in hearing your thoughts and as always likes, comments and subscriptions to the channel give me a good indication about feedback.

    I've 2 other videos:

    Renault 19 RSi (Audio fixed)

    Renault Megane (First video)

The plan is to record 5 to begin with and reassess how it's going at that point. I've the 4th one recorded and the 5th one will be done later next week.

New video coming Thursday, I'm still experimenting with days and times so sorry if it's a bit confusing

Hi Folks. On this weeks episode of John's Garage I take a 1993 Mazda MX 5 (Eunos) for a drive and share some thoughts about the car.

    https://youtube.com/watch?v=UFJ1ATmXDPE…

It would be great to hear and read your comments regarding if people would like the channel to continue as after the 5th episode next week I wish to make a decision on if it's something worth pursuing on a more permanent basis. It takes a huge amount of time and generosity on behalf of the cars owners to make the channel possible. Thank you!

I think you'll be better off getting a lapel mic or an improved directional mic. The background noise in the cabin is off putting and can overtake your voice majority of the time. Good audio quality with good video quality is a vital starting point.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,611 ✭✭✭ba_barabus

Well spotted, hard to miss it in fairness. For now it's the concept I'm trying to see if there is a demand for. There is one more episode already recorded which takes the initial planned for run to 5 after which I wanted to see if people wanted more before I started to spend money as to get good quality equipment costs. I'm also learning as I go along and I suppose for now that's best done cheap.

But you're absolutely correct, the sound needs to be tackled if there is to be a 6th episode and a lapel mic will be the way it's done.

Fair play for having a go John, big journeys start with a small step. The big question is are you doing it because you enjoy it, or with the intention of growing the channel as a future revenue stream? If the former just keep doing what you are doing, you will only get better at it. If the latter then you need to consider what makes your offering compelling. There is so much motoring content with people doing stuff like this, and I don't mean to be blunt, but there is not much here (yet!) that would make me want to subscribe. Find an angle and keep working on it. Best of luck!

I think for now it's firmly a hobby. If it turns into anything else that's just a lucky break I think.

You're right about lots of people doing different things online, my angle is the local perspective but nothing is nailed down. I've a few ideas in mind.

No worries about subscribing, I completely get its not for everyone, nothing is.

Sorry for the delayed notice this week, my little lad ended up in A&E. All good though.

Anyway, this week I take a drive in an old battered Merc C180 that was given to me by the previous owner. Mechanically perfect, interior perfect but the body has one, two or three dents on it.

If anyone has a passenger door in the right colour I'd be very grateful for a donation.

    Anyways, enjoy the video

Anyway, this week I'll be featuring a 2001 Lexus LS430 Ultra

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,611 ✭✭✭ba_barabus

Now LIVE on John's Garage, this weeks video walk around and drive of an original 2001 Lexus LS 430 'Ultra' which was a very rare special order including a personalised reg plate. The owner is looking for a little help to try to identify the original owner of the car who placed the special order for such a rare model.

Enjoy the video, don't forget to LIKE and COMMENT and please share if you could!

    TWO IMPORTANT UPDATES:

I'm going to try and go back to weekly videos next week with a focus on car models and a little history on them every second week. If there is any you'd like me to focus on let me know, I'm going to start with a few cars I've already featured. This won't be anorak stuff but thought it would be interesting all the same. I'm also happy to build it around videos of viewers cars or pictures. I've reached out to people on YouTube to be allowed use their videos and vintage ads for the cars with little response so trying to get around that issue.

I'd also like to give a little space for people based in Ireland who offer specialist service in the motor trade. I'm thinking people who can refurb rare parts, 3d print parts, refurb the chrome finish on headlights, rechrome body parts, retrim interiors etc. I'm hoping to give 30-60 slots where you tell us what you do and how you can be contacted.

I've noticed a lot of people asking online about these things who would have normally sent parts to the UK but since Brexit this has been an issue. I'm hoping the solutions can be highlighted here at home to help them.

I don't want anything for this happy to give the space to help if people want to take advantage of the offer.

    Anyway, this weeks video:

I drive viewers cars so once one comes along I'll happily do it

Hi folks and welcome to this weeks video of John's Garage.

We're trying something new this week and it's a concept I'm going to refine a bit more over the next few weeks.

In short, I'm going to look at the history of specific models and cars. If you have any car you'd like me to focus on, even better if you have one and would be happy to supply some video and images of it, I'm happy to do the research and put everything together. I've reached out to several channels to see if they'd give me permission to use their video clips but sadly I've only received PFO type replies if any.

Covid is playing havoc with my job which is changing for the 4th time in 12 weeks so it's proving a major challenge to get out to film cars, so anyone who has been in contact with me that's why I've been a bit quiet/slow in replying. Please bear with me.

Anyway, this weeks video, a little delve into the history of the 1974-1981 3rd generation of the Toyota Corolla.

Check out wikicommons, lots of free images on there that you can use on youtube.

    Cui bono?

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,611 ✭✭✭ba_barabus

I didn't know that, thanks so much! Trying to get people to let me use old ads they've uploaded on YouTube but nobody has given me permission so far.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,394 ✭✭✭hoodie6029

no bother, i'm sure that there are other archives out there that will give out their footage. These youtubers must be very wary of competition!

For anyone considering importing a car I've made a video showing how to calculate what you'll owe, be warned, the 1992 OMSP is from the Revenue website but they'll calculate it using their (un)lucky dip system

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,611 ✭✭✭ba_barabus

This week on John's Garage I take a 1985 Toyota Carina II in Camel Two Tone Beige for a drive. This car is like new and really surprised me with how good they were. What do you think? Let me know in the comments under the video.

This week on John's Garage we take a look at the history of the 4th Generation Toyota Carina II including some Irish and International ads from when it was new. You won't find this anywhere else (literally, I looked, there is no video of it and barely any articles about it online)

Enjoy, and please feel free to share, like and subscribe.
