Yeah I'd say that's spot on. Henshaw might feature off the bench as he's had very little rugby.

A few of the lads involved at the weekend off the bench and in the wider squad could be included. Some will need to be, especially Harry Byrne. He needs game time.

Byrne, Tracy, Ala'alatoa, Moloney, Toner, Leavy, Penny, Ruddock

McGrath, RByrne, Larmour, Frawley, Henshaw, AByrne, JOB

Sheehan, Dooley, Abdaladze, Baird, Murphy, McCarthy, HByrne, TOB

Cant speak for everyone in the wider squad but Ryan Baird has jetted off based on his Insta so he wont be involved.

Given he played 40 minutes across the 3 games I think it's a fair bet that we wont see anyone who saw action in the AIs this weekend.

A pity as Harry and Henshaw especially could do with some continuity I feel.

Having said that the Leinster squad who weren't involved with Ireland have all been training together and targeting only this game for a month. Might not be the worst thing to not get any of the internationals back

Ulster don’t turn up in the RDS. They’re generally beaten before they get off the bus. It’s not like we are playing Connacht, who at least always show up.

    Frank Murphy in charge.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,347 ✭✭✭RichieRich_89

Presumably this jetting off was booked before he was called into action, so maybe even guys like Frawley and Larmour who didn't feature won't be available. Although, then again, maybe not. Timoney was back with Ulster before he was recalled to the Ireland squad. Maybe Frawley and Larmour were back with Leinster.

Who plays 12 if Frawley isn't available? Tommy O'Brien, I guess - with Osborne and JOB covering 13 and 15.

Larmour was training yesterday so he isn't off anywhere, not sure on Frawley.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,347 ✭✭✭RichieRich_89

    Think I'd go for:

    1. Edward Byrne
    2. James Tracy
    3. Michael Ala'alatoa
    4. Joe McCarthy
    5. Ross Molony
    6. Josh Murphy
    7. Dan Leavy
    8. Max Deegan
    9. Luke McGrath
    10. Ross Byrne
    11. Jordan Larmour
    12. Tommy O’Brien
    13. Jimmy O'Brien
    14. Adam Byrne
    15. Jamie Osborne
    16. John McKee
    17. Peter Dooley
    18. Vakhtang Abdaladze
    19. Devin Toner
    20. Scott Penny
    21. Nick McCarthy
    22. David Hawkshaw
    23. Chris Cosgrave/Rob Russell

Not sure there's much point persisting with 35-yo Cronin when you have Kelleher and Sheehan to come back in.

I'd like to see them get cracking on developing another tighthead lock.

Could Jimmy O'Brien be the passing option at 13 Ringrose isn't? He has Keenan-like passing ability from his days playing 7s.

Maybe Frawley is available, which would change things a bit as regards backline selection.

Iain Henderson suffered a hamstring injury during the warm-up for Ireland’s Autumn Nations Series game against Argentina on Sunday.

He joins the following players on the current injury list:

    Will Addison (lower leg)

    Cormac Izuchukwu (knee)

    Jack McGrath (hip)

    Luke Marshall (knee)

    Jordi Murphy (knee)

    Jacob Stockdale (ankle)

    Ben Moxham (groin)

how many forwards from leinster are likely to start for Ulster?

  • Registered Users Posts: 882 ✭✭✭Lsdrugbyfan

Ulster have lost 33 of the previous 43 meetings versus Leinster.

Ulster have a mental bloc unfortunately when it comes to playing ALL the other provinces these days...not just Leinster.

I guess the Ulster team will look something like this...

    15 Ethan McIlroy

14 Robert Baloucoune (if released and it's not like had much to do on Sunday!)

    13 James Hume

    12 Stuart McCloskey

    11 Craig Gilroy

    10 Billy Burns

    9 John Cooney

    1 Eric O'Sullivan

    2 Rob Herring

    3 Marty Moore

    4 Alan O'Connor

    5 Sam Carter

    6 Matty Rea

    7 Nick Timoney

    8 David McCann

Bench - 16 Bradley Roberts, 17 Callum Reid, 18 Tom O'Toole, 19 Mick Kearney, 20 Sean Reidy, 21 Nathan Doak, 22 Mike Lowry, 23 Rob Lyttle

    Leinster will win comfortably

I thought you'd be best placed on here to answer that, you always seem to keep a pretty close tally.

Can't see too many scenarios where Ruddock isn't playing this fixture

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,515 ✭✭✭arsebiscuits1

I should know better than to fan the flames given where these topics normally lead us.

But Venjur already set the tone of this thread so I'm going for it!

But you'd imagine 3 and possibly 4? O'Sullivan, Moore, O'Connor, Kearney, Timoney would all be pretty likely starters.

Would like to see Osbourne and Frawley again. And Hume & Moore.

Ulster will show up. They've been sewing since their last outing!

Thread has been up nearly 10 hours and not a single card yet. Up your game folks...

Yep, they have some lovely new jerseys to show for their efforts! Great squad effort!

I wouldn't be complaining too soon about the lack of cards, Venjur, if Frank Murphy is the ref. ;)

Can they still give out cards on the new boards?

Speaking of cards. Remember when Payne got red carded against Sarries?

Is the parking at Simmonscourt open tonight? Just showing Mon-Fri to 7pm on their website.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,920 ✭✭✭✭stephen_n

I’d assume it is, as it was previously for all games. Though if I was driving I’d park over on Clyde Road, or Elgin Road, only 5 minute walk and always loads of parking.

So for all the jokes, I actually think Ulster are going to win this one.
