Got my mam's Christmas present sorted, her birthday at the end of month and she's asked for money for that. So just my dad left and SORTED. Other than that it's just getting in the Christmas goodies.

Stamps bought on that offer, 28 for the national and 5x international should do for this year (and most of next!)

So - cards bought. Stamps bought. Grandmothers present bought. Younger niece and nephews presents bought. Older nephews want and will be given cash. We don't do presents for adult members of the family - decided we all had far too much stuff over a decade ago!

Have an idea what to get for my partner but need some specifics nailed down, will hopefully have it ordered within a week. Going to visit my best mate who has moved to Spain in a few weeks, will get a fancy bottle of whiskey in the airport as that's what we did anyway.

Added the two missing but still on sale Lego Winter Village sets already, and I've bought the missing parts to build one of the ones I didn't have yet (I had ~90% of the parts in my own stock - just needed a few specialist ones), so decorations wise I just need a billion candles. And anything else that takes my eye

Think that leaves the tree, food and drink as the only outstanding purchases. I'm not normally done this early!

edit: I still have enough wrapping paper from last year. Probably need a gift bag for my grandmothers present, its not wrappable.

Louth/Meath elves....Haggardstown Garden Centre off the Dundalk South M1 junction has their Christmas decs in and they're lovely...... same with Navan Garden Centre just outside Kentstown, a bit different and they're not robbing people price wise either.

Our new Christmas tree (tree no.3!!) arrived this morning (this one is silver & frosted) and seeing as we were both WFH the Mrs. decided she had to put it together to see if it was full enough for her liking so off she went... she has now decided that its perfect and that there's little point in taking it down to put it up again in just over 2 weeks... so we've a tree up in the living room with no decorations on it. I know full well I'll come home from work tomorrow and she'll have it 100% decorated though... think its a little early myself TBH but what can you do 😀

@DvB you will have to post a picture of the tree 👌 plus all 3 when decorated

Got 2 lighting snowglobe gin liqueurs in M&S- one for a Secret Santa and one to me, from me. They look fab. There is also a rum liqueur too, for any rum drinkers.

For €29.50 they would make a nice fancy looking sparkly gift.

They look nice Posy, how big are they in terms of ml volume? And do they do a dark rum one?

Do they do any other alcoholic ones? I have a friend who loves Prosecco 👍

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 27,519 Mod ✭✭✭✭Posy

They are 70cl size- there is also a blood orange gin liqueur in a 1.5 litre magnum size, but it looks ridiculously large!

There is also a madagascan vanilla rum liqueur.

They have lovely bottles of prosecco (above) for €15- I will be purchasing one of each. 😁

They don't sparkle or light up though, sadly!

Homestore lights gone half price. Just back from getting a few sets. Also online, but when they're gone, they're... well you know

Is it only me or is the art on this years stamps really basic? It looks like something from a children's book. I saw an amazing drawing of an old Dublin Christmas on Reddit lately, and thats the kind of thing they should have on the stamps, something very Irish and really well done.

Not a huge fan of the stamps myself either, some of them are worse than the others too.

I'd be delighted if they got PJ Lynch to do another set. I think he's done two or three a good few already.

For me it's the number in the top right. Get higher every year it seems! Posting cards is becoming a 'luxury' Christmas tradition.

It'd said N for the last few years rather than the price.

Selling 5c stamps to make up the difference costs more than they make from it so most stamps are now marked by type (N/W - there was an E rate for Europe once) meaning they hold their value.

I think the 90c Christmas ones may have been the last with value on them.

We held at 55c for a huge time, they're still cheapish by other countries standards and there's discounts on bulk purchases - that won't lose value now they're N marked.
