Excellent win for Australia, WIndies have been poor enough in this tournament, never looked like defending their title.

South Africa really putting it up to England, fist time England have been under any sort of pressure.

England started really well, 38/0 after 4.1 then Jason Roy does his knee jogging a single... thought initially it was a hamstring but the way he’s having to be helped off, he can put zero weight on it, defo his knee you’d think, disaster after a fine start.

Roy looking in a LOT of pain.

Roy looked like classic cramp but obviously not with his reaction. Will mean a change for the semi. Listened to a CricViz podcast and they were against moving Bairstow from number four based on his value coming in later starting against spin. Hasnt worked that way so far. Could open with Livingston or even Moeen for the left and right hand.

It was the pedestrian way South Africa chased the small total against Bangladesh that cost them. NNR can never be ignored. Did well overall winning four out of the five games. Unlike the West Indies, they left the old men at home and that should stand to them next year.

So Australia make the semi, their attack will be a good test for Pakistan.

I’m going for the English based on form.

England going well, they're firm favourites for this match and fully expect them to win though it'd be good to see NZ win the competition.

67-2 after 10 , I think England are going to have to rely on their bowlers to do the job today

england might have left it a bit late to accelerate here.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,800 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Yep, 100%. Can’t understand why with the number of wickets in hand... a head scratcher...really conservative. 165 or thereabouts will be the total... getable.

Need a big knock from Moen now in these last 3 overs

Billings looks an odd pick based on them waiting so deep to go big. He might pull a worldie run out but they coulda done with another bowler.

Key in the chase for me will be can England get 5/6 overs out of Ali/Livingstone early. If they do that gives them serious options.

166/4. Par score? Leaves it fairly open. Chase should go down to the wire.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,800 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Probably a respectable decent par score... not great but not a disaster.

NZ are good enough to chase it down. But English can be good enough to defend it... first 5 overs key. Can’t call it.

I'd say England at least 20 short, probably 30, especially as batting 2nd this tournament is such an advantage.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

England a little short but probably still enough but need to bowl better than they did against SA bad start by NZ, soft dismissal of Guptil.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,800 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Woakes bowls a shocker first up that’s sent to the boundary, next delivery he gets away with a dreadful one, should have been called a wide, then takes a wicket, a bad shot real bad by Guptill.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,029 ✭✭✭MFPM

FFS Williamson, that's a stupid shot.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,800 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Then a a wicket maiden from Woakes.. great bowling..

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,800 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Runs are drying up... the required is up to 10.5

Mitchell & Conway batting like Malan and Ali did. One of them needs to stay like Moeen did and a Neesham/Philips cameo.

Surprised they’ve left the 4 overs from the 5th bowler quite late.

Putting the foot down now but some quite naive bowling, no balls and wides and some gimmies dispatched to the rope.

english fielding not great, run out chances off successive deliveries but poor throws back to the stumps.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,800 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Well it’s pretty done as a contest the English bowlers bowling disciplined lines and lengths and as I posted that Wood bowls a bouncer..4. Almost 6... why ??

    What a spell from livingstone

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,029 ✭✭✭MFPM

Incredible by NZ. That over by Jordan might screw England...tight finish..

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,029 ✭✭✭MFPM

12 from 10. England under the kosh here...Great innings by Mitchell.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,029 ✭✭✭MFPM

England looking done here...Mitchell smashing Woakes

Some absolutely horrible bowling by England at the death there.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,688 ✭✭✭MoodeRator

Well played NZ, hope they go on to win it now

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,029 ✭✭✭MFPM

What a victory for NZ. Chuffed for them particularly after the 2019 World Cup. Who would've thought they'd beat England with little contribution with the bat from Williamson and Guptil? England's bowling fell apart a bit towards the end, they were relatively comfortable after 15 overs.

Disappointed as an England fan but to me it felt like New Zealand were on top for pretty much the whole game and thoroughly deserved the win. Cracks were beginning to show for England in the South Africa game.

Fingers crossed the Kiwis win the final too.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.
