Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    Was listening to the radio yesterday about how Doolin coastguard was stood down. RTE sent a man down there but could get next to no one to speak to them. They did however manage to interview two former members of the service but that wasn't particularly enlightening beyond saying they had issues.Conciliation has been attempted, but over what, remained unsaid. It felt as if the interviewer was tip toeing around an elephant in the room tbh.

    Anyone have any idea what is going on here?

    Im guessing the usual politics and disputes that torments the VEMS.

    So what exactly are the circumstances that have lad to the disintegration of that unit?

    It's all being kept hush hush, in typical Irish fashion, just like the church. Wouldn't surprise me if, similarly, there was some sort of abuse or sex scandal behind it. This country is notorious for such. That or just combination of politics, bullying and incompetence. Again, a particularly Irish way of doing things.

    Has anyone any inkling as to just what the hell is going on up there?

    The little what I could get from the interview on RTE is that it's related to the tragic death of one of the volunteers on a rescue at Doolin a few years ago. It seems that ICG doesn't want the volunteers undertaking certain risky missions such as those at the cliffs of Moher, and this has upset some of the volunteers.

    It's all very secretive and hush hush, so it's impossible to know as an outsider what's really going on though.

    I heard similar, plus the opinion is the the upper echelons seemed to be far removed from the boots on the ground, but maybe there might be a little clear out since the R116 report has come out.
