Hard to see anything other than and England vs Pakistan final as this stage

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,205 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Sri Lanka left them off the hook when they were bowling. They might be a good team by the next world cup, at the moment they can't put it all together for a full game. Very young team so expected too.

England very impressive again this time winning the hard way. With all the talk of fielding in the dew and the Sharjah pitch. Need Wood back to replace Mills. It's Tom Curran or Willey if not.

6 of the Sri Lanka team failed to get into double figures... both openers out extremely cheaply and the tail didn’t get close to wagging, a total collapse at the end.....3 of their bowlers going for over 10 an over.

Tail rarely wags in T20 when the required rate is over 15. Cheap wickets for the bowlers time cleaning them up usually. Hasaranga and Sanaka needed to get the runs if they were to get them. The rate was around ten at that stage, four overs left. As soon as they fell, they needed a miracle.

Bowlers struggled to contain Buttler after the tenth over. Five or six bad overs cost them. It's difficult to be too harsh at them as it's almost impossible to bowl at him in this form.

Yes, Buttler is in the form of his life to be fair.

Namibia started well with the ball here but really shît the bed when they came under pressure by the Pakistani batsmen in the latter part of the innings... about 15 - 20 full tosses being bowled and being suitably dispatched...it looked initially like they might limit Pakistan to 145-155 thereabouts but loosing their heads with their line and length completely..and very average in the field, an innings of two halves.... another full toss hit for 6 as I type, brain dead, not learning... captain finally convened a meeting with 4 balls left in the innings, should have been doing that about 6 overs ago... makes no difference, boundaries a plenty, an expensive final over... 22 from it, all but the final delivery going to the boundary.

Umpiring has been a bit slack... that’s three full tosses, from quicker bowlers, all passing the batsmen at rib height but no no balls called... should have been obvious to both umpires.

only one winner and it ain’t Namibia... 11th over and 5 dot balls, just a single...

Feels like a warm-up match, Pakistan aren't even celebrating wickets or anything. Namibia gave it a go but are miles away. Needed Trumpelmann to have a great opening spell to have any hope today.

Do you only need one hand to count the close, competitive games? Very one sided games so far.

The toss is absolutely critical. Has made a massive difference this tournament and led to some cake walks.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

Very hard to see Scotland getting this total, good batting by NZ, not the most likely tournament winners but a decent dark horse.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,205 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Scotland have been pretty good today. Even going after Ish Sodhi now.

Good effort by Scotland. India look on the money so far...they need to win this.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,205 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Afghanistan missing Mujeeb. Could be over 200.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,005 ✭✭✭MFPM

Brutal hitting by India against a good bowling attack. This is a bit more like the India expected to win the competition.

    210 - cake walk!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,684 ✭✭✭MoodeRator

They needed that, I can see India, Afghanistan an New Zealand all finish on 6 points and NRR to decide. Will be an interesting climax to that group

oops forgot that Afg and NZ are to play each other sill

So India smashing the three minnows of the group might be enough. Its unlikely to happen and I hope it doesn't, they don't deserve it after being so awful against Pakistan and NZ.

Barely believable how pathetic Bangladesh have been again today. No fight or spirit against the pace. No clue against Zamba.

West Indies limp out of the tournament, Chris Gayle insisted on playing, and slated Curtly Ambrose who said he shouldn’t have been picked, the selectors should be sacked, they picked the wrong side, Big hetmyer batted well, but without much help, but this team played on together too long, hit and giggle T20 leagues are ten a penny, bravo dancing around when someone slogs him up in the air was becoming annoying, he wasn’t dancing much in this tournament

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,205 ✭✭✭Gillespy

They went on too long, that was plain to see to many when the squad was announced, and to everyone after the first game being bowled for 55.

Doesn't change the fact they were a great T20 side for a decade or so.

Happy Sri Lanka won. Makings of a dangerous team there. Asalanka will surely be in demand come IPL auction time.

They were brilliant and renowned for clearing the ropes, also in the T20 format, Trinidad and Tobago were an outstanding side, they were way ahead of the game in terms of tactics and execution of plans, opening the bowling with Badree, Simmons opening, Pollard accelerating and Bravo with bat and ball were fantastic. There are a few others also who will come to mind, I remember West Indies needing 12 from the final over to beat Australia, and Darren Sammy went .6.6 That was not the preferred method of the sky commentary team, but it worked fine for West Indies.

With another T20 WC in 12 months time, there was no huge downside for the West Indies in giving this team one last hurrah. Clearly hasn't worked out in this renewal but at least they can now clear the decks for new blood.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,205 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Thats a fair point. Pollard and Russell will want to play in that. Lewis, Pooran and Hetmyer will be there. Not sure who else survives from the team yesterday. Bowling was just as bad as the batting. Couldn't take any wickets.

On paper today should be straightforward. Namibia are doing well so far though and making NZ earn it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,247 ✭✭✭✭ArmaniJeanss

NZ 90/4 with 5 overs left. Something around 140 incoming?

Could be the way back into the competition that India needed.

Edit. 96 from 16. 140 would seem unlikely from here, and give Namibia a big chance.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,695 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

NZ were / are too conservative, happy pushing ones and twos with lots of overs and wickets in hand... strange. Namibia have bowled well and with discipline but little to no risk by NZ... strange when so many wickets in hand...

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,247 ✭✭✭✭ArmaniJeanss

35 runs (cumulative) from 17th and 18th overs swings it back to NZ at 131. 150+ should be defendable.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,695 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Nice finish by the NZ batsmen... Namibia bowlers looked jaded at the end, their accuracy suffered...leaked serious runs.

their batsmen not nearly adventurous enough... in a couple of the latter overs and more dots then runs. 5.72 is the current run rate they needed over 8.

India predictably annihilate Scotland and so it all comes down to Sunday. New Zealand beat Afghanistan and they go into the semi-finals with Pakistan. They don't and India will go into the final four when they beat Namibia on Monday.

    Semi-finals are likely to be:

    England vs New Zealand/India

    Pakistan vs Australia/South Africa

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,205 ✭✭✭Gillespy

India have given themselves the best chance possible with another thumping win. NNR better than Afghanistan now so if Afghanistan beat NZ on Sunday, India play Namibia on Monday knowing what they need. NZ just need to win to make the semi.

Australia going to beat WI at a canter.. 111/1 after 11.3 chasing 158....

WI need wickets but don’t look close to getting one.

Wokes all over the shop, there always has been a question mark over his temperament, going back to his mark smiling after being hit for six, bowls a full toss, six again and following delivery almost a wide, 21 off the over.
