Any green-home friendly insurers?

My home insurance is up for renewal for the first time since I installed my solar PV system. If anyone has found a home insurer who gives discounts for homes with PV installations I'd appreciate a PM to let me know the details!

I'll watch with interest but I cant see how/why an insurer would give a discount for a home with SolarPV. It doesnt make the house less risky for them to insure just because you have SolarPV and its all about risk for them.

Arguably its more risky as you are messing with your roof and adding the risk of wind catching the panels and damaging the roof.

But maybe there is some other angle for an insurer that I'm not aware of. Lets see what the wisdom of boards throws up!

ESG is very trendy in European corporate boardrooms these days. We're seeing lots of financial services companies offering discounts for anything green - e.g. green financing from credit unions at lower rates than financing for other renovations. Wouldn't be surprised if there was something similar from insurance companies.

unless the underwriter has documentable reasons to lower the calculated risk, I can't see why there would be a lower premium. in fact, putting high power electric devices in your attic (typically with household clutter) I reckon would only increase the risk rating.
