Budget '21, any changes?

Did anyone hear anything about Diesel?

Government get around 55 euro per 100 euro on diesel

I think I heard over 60% on the radio today.

Petrol is going up 2.1c/L

Diesel by 2.5c/L

All other fuels going up pro rata.

This is Carbon tax and was announced 2 or 3 years ago so no surprise.

About 50 M euro of carbon tax already collected that was to be given to farmers has been taken back from the Dept of Ag as they hadnt put schemes in place to distribute it. It went to Dept of social protection.

Then it all gets wasted by the civil/public service, ie childrens hospital, govt printers, and on infinitum

Would people find themselves dealing in cash still a lot?

Maybe it’s cos I’m in a PAYE job, but I would rarely have cash in my wallet now. I even sold sheep this year and they were paid for using revolut. The remaining sheep were paid for using cheque. Would be unusual for people to pay with cash

Never have cash on me thta much now. Find if its in the hand i spend it so dont withdraw much lol... We had someone selling tickets here yesterday and they had a card machine!!

The vat refund is based on a formula, so is not down to the generusity or otherwise of the politicians

If they're not they're not incurring any extra expense even if the bill payer is.

For some people working from home won't affect utilities much anyway unless the house would be otherwise empty all day.

Broadband, most people have it at a fixed flat rate anyway regardless of whether it's used for work or personal stuff so using more doesn't put up the bill.

Electricity, there might be some increase but it's probably more than offset by the saving on the cost of getting to work and as I'm over 25 not to mention in rural Ireland a 50% off public transport card isn't going to save me anything going to work.

Many farmers work from home. How about extending the allowance for them.

Surely the fuel savings alone provide enough for the wfh brigade - without giving them tax allowances.

Farmers claim 2/3 of their usage as standard. You can, if you feel tour business uses more than this percentage, claim more.

Yeah, same here. And I would have though it would be the same for most farmers.

Would agree about the trades and how the level of cash is tolerated...

I'm not sure how it would stand up to scrutiny but transferring money from the farm account to a personal account will let you put a note to say welding or whatever which will be on your bank statement.

You can withdraw the cash from the cash from the personal account and give to the tradesman.

And if you get an audit

Allot of banks have closed around here and cash is harder got, you have to work out how many withdrawals and expense of going to cash machine for the discount given

Don’t forget as farmers we can claim the vat back

I was more thinking small one off jobs of say €50-100 a couple of times over the year.

If you have someone building a shed and it's hundreds or thousands I'm not sure I'd want to be paying cash.
