A return to lifting the spirits of the nation, as usual, for Mr. Fun, for he has gathered together an entertaining selection of misery porn (with the possible exception of Ruth Negga, and maybe, Peter Schmeichel).

Cue some mumbled and clumsy nonsense honing in on Ruth's ethnicity for starters.

"Oscar-nominated actress Ruth Negga and model Rosanna Davison are among the guests for this Friday night's Late Late Show.

Loving star Negga will join Ryan Tubridy to discuss her incredible career both on-stage and on-screen as well as her new film Passing."

He'll relish his chat with Rosanna, for reasons which are even made apparent in the pre-show blurb.

"Davison will talk to Tubridy about her turbulent journey to motherhood. From suffering 15 miscarriages, surrogacy, to the surprise of carrying identical twin boys throughout the pandemic."

Peter is an unusual guest, must be writing a book or something.

"Famed goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel will be on the show to talk about his hugely successful spell at Manchester United, his regrets about leaving the club, his father who was a Polish double agent and the pride he feels in his own son - Leicester and Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel."

This...this is blatant exploitation and I'm saying SFA about it 😒

"Andrew McGinley will discuss life after the deaths of his three young children at the hands of his wife and the children's mother, Deirdre Morley."

Even the musical acts are ripe for a tumescent Tubridy to get off on.

"Steve Garrigan from Kodaline will be talking about a life dealing with shyness, anxiety and panic attacks and he will also be performing his song High Hopes."

"There will also be music from Mick Flannery and Susan O'Neill singing the duet Are We Free? and Clannad legend Moya Brennan will perform her new single with world-renowned accordion player Liam O'Connor."

What light entertainment for a Friday night ;(

This is beyond ridiculous at this stage.

Have nothing against any of the guests but for RTE to peddle this as a light entertainment programme and continue to churn out misery after misery is unacceptable.

I will bet a week's wages that he will have Vicky Phelan on in the next few weeks to grill her about how she feels about dying and how her family and children are preparing.

    This has to stop.

I don't think Moya Brennan has been on since September.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,565 ✭✭✭archfi

    Agreed.

The bit that gets me is RTE's webpage revealing the guests and topics.

No matter there's death and misery on the menu, this is the clowns face greeting visitors to that page.🤡

The issue is never the issue; the issue is always the revolution.

The Entryism process: 1) Demand access; 2) Demand accommodation; 3) Demand a seat at the table; 4) Demand to run the table; 5) Demand to run the institution; 6) Run the institution to produce more activists and policy until they run it into the ground.

Yeah, the big 'reveal' each week, like the guests are amazing A-listers, when nothing could be further from the truth.

"Andrew McGinley will discuss life after the deaths of his three young children at the hands of his wife and the children's mother, Deirdre Morley."

Andrew McGinley will not be on the Late Late tonight. Would love to know why not.

He was supposed to launch a fund raising event.

I hope for the poor man's sake he pulled out-but no doubt it will be a Tubridy pre-record.

I often wonder is it really an Irish media obsession with misery and sad stories

    or

Do a large number of Irish people actually like misery and sad stories?

Lets be honest, the LLS gets fairly big viewing figures, yet it has been peddling misery as entertainment for many years now.

So why aren't people turning off in their droves?

Well at least Graham Norton is back. He has

Jodie Comer on tonight and some other people who I have never heard off but they are still probably a lot more famous than any of the people that the plank Tubridy has on.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

it goes from worse to worst.

I caught about 15 mins of Gob Geldof the screen last week and that was enough.

Misery quotient is going to go off the scale this evening.

“That’s the past, what you saw in the last 18 months is behind us now. This is The Late Late Show reboot. We are back with a bang. We are optimistic. We are hopeful. We are positive. We are post-pandemic in so many ways. Obviously we know there’s still things going on, but we are extremely excited about what the possibilities are in this hyper-vaccinated country.” - R. Tubridy, 2021.

    It’s all they have , it’s Ryan’s only trick

cant do sport , non commercial music, fun, Hollywood, conversation

out of them all I would suggest conversation would be good trait for a talk show host but who am I only a gobshite on the couch

Its abit of an echo chamber in here....i agree with most contributors...we all know tubridy is a ghoul, a misery merchant....

Where are the fans of tubridy...those that think he is worth 500k a year....

Do they exist?.....if so...whats wrong with them?

I love you all dearly, but I'm not putting myself through that tonight.

The Fugitive is on RTE 2. That's the antidote.

God, I bet Ryan would love to interview Dr Richard Kimble. Wife murdered. Sent to prison even though he was innocent. Whatever was wrong with that kid he diagnoses when Julianne Moore is looking for him. Was in the Chicago St Patrick's Day parade.

    That's a full house.

Joseph O’Connor in the Boomtown Rats documentary on BBC Four right now saying ‘the whole country would shut down just to watch the LLS on a Friday night.’

If anyone wants to take a break from making fun of real life tragedy etc. on this thread.

BBC 4 has an Irish band night, starring guess who - The Boomtown Rats.

    Rock on Sir Bob 🙂

That poor McGinley man though 😔 How is Ryan going to manage such awfulness in an authentic way.
