Compliance / AML Career & Study

    Hi,

    I just got started in an AML job and I'm looking ahead to see what kind of options are ahead. Compliance as a whole seems to be a broad area with specialisms like AML and data protection. What I want to do is move up the ladder and earn more.

    I've been looking up compliance / AML jobs out there and there are plenty of jobs available at different levels, e.g. 6-12 months, 2 years, 3+ experience. Salaries go up nicely especially combined with a qualification in the area. I'm considering the LCOI or ACAMS, I don't think the QFA would be for me as I'm not currently planning on working directly with the public.

    Do you work in compliance or AML? Did you get any of the qualifications out there? Would you say it's best to sample different areas before commiting to study?

    Youd be best off doing the LCOI qualification rather than the ACAMS. The LCOI will touch on AML whilst giving a more compliance generalist background.

    Don't work in Compliance, but work closely with them. I havent come across anyone with the ACAMs qualification but they would all have LCOI or its building blocks ?

    Hi, thanks for the ideas. Yeah, seeing it on plain paper like that, for now it seems like a general compliance qualification would likely be more beneficial. I’ll probably start that next then.

    I looked at the International Compliance Association and that’s 2k+4k ex VAT just to get a DIPLOMA never mind and MSc! What a racket.

    Maybe a bit of a cheeky one, but if I were you I would contact a recruitement consultant who specialises in that area. (With Linkedin or recruiter websites, it would be very easy to find out)

    I would be honest with them and be like I am just getting started out in AML. I note you specialise in recruiting in that area. Look at the job specs and ask them what qualification would they recommend or what is most in demand in that field. Tell them that you don't have much to offer them right now, but say in one or two years post qualification you will be back to them looking for a job.
