Bike Storage, front of house, Dublin

We have a small back garden in Dublin, cluttered up with bikes. 5 of us cycle to work or school. We are currently storing under a shelter but want to invest in a secure bike shed that will hold 4-5 bikes. Looking at https://www.asgardsss.co.uk/large-metal-bike-shed

They don’t deliver to Ireland but I haven’t contacted the yet to see if I can arrange delivery with them.

Want it low, not a full height shed as will be at front of house, we have a long front garden so will be back off the road quite a bit.

Anyone any recommendations? don’t think I want wood, prefer steel. Don’t mind paying a bit for something that is secure and will last. Have seen bike shell but don’t like the plastic look tbh.

Could we share city bike storage solutions please?

There was a thread on here a while back on bike sheds I think with some good info. I saved down the link to the below which someone recommended (along with the asgards one you linked). I think there was a mention of someplace in Kildare as an official supplier of one or the other.

Was there not some case in the last 18 months or so where a bike shed erected in a front garden had to be removed due to planning issues?

There was a case in the UK. I think the shed was permitted on appeal, or something like that.

People built a house in Meath without planning permission and it took over 10 years to get enforcement. A shed in the front garden while requiring planning permission will be like the thousands of front gardens illegally changed to car parking spaces, illegal but not enforced

I'm familiar with the vagaries of the planning process, but I thought I remembered a specific case where a shed was to be removed from a front garden. Turns out it was a UK case.

I haven’t seen a perfect product yet but have thought about this too much.

I would want the security to come from an abundance of good locks and chains in turn attached to a ground anchor that’s set in concrete or similar.

I’d want a stand location and individual locks for each bike so any bike can be removed without moving another one. The stand might not have anything to do with the locks / ground anchor. The best use of space might allow for each bike to be located on a pull out shelf that doubles as a temporary work stand for chain cleaning and lubrication / tyre pumping / brake check etc.

The “shed” then only needs to protect the bikes from the elements. It could have transparent sides or even just be a roof. It could look like a bin-store or even have a roof made from wheely bin lids so it looks like it only contains bins. For me it would blend in rather than shout “bike storage” or look like something the neighbours would feel the need to complain about.

My point being I would not want to be depending on the materials, hinges or the door-lock of the shed for the “lock-up” element.

But the other option is put in a base of cement and to install fixed anchors that the bikes can be locked to and put a shed or similar structure over it about 1.5m high, bolted into the cement base.

Then pants a few shrubs to hide it from view.

I had the same requirement and got one of these https://www.dancovershop.com/ie/product/bike-storage-203x198x157-m-proshed-anthracite.aspx. The downside is that the self assembly took over a day, but its pretty secure, and very handy as you can get individual bikes out without having to take them all out.
