Close contact on holiday abroad

What happens if a close contact has left the country on holiday before the HSE had notified them. They had a negative antigen test before leaving.

What's stopping you contacting them? You don't need to wait for the HSE to do it.

Why should anything official happen? You can let them know and they if so choose can take another antigen test.. or PCR if they are especially diligent.

Where are they, most pharmacies will sell antigen tests, just buy a few of them and test every second day, and tell them to get on and enjoy their holiday

And of course they need to comply with whatever rules are in place in the country that they are now in for people who have been in close contact - i.e. if that country's rules say that close contacts must test, they must test; if they say they must isolate themselves until they get a clear result, they must do that. Etc, etc.

This is the bigger issue. Irish rules don't apply to you when you're in Teapotistan, but Teapotistani rules do.

is the close contact fully vaccinated? If they are then they will not be asked to isolate or restrict movements so will be ok.

That depends on the rules in place in the country to which they have travelled. We don't know what country that is.

Portugal, They weren't the full 14days post 2nd vaccine leaving the country but will be fully vaccinated returning.

They should check locally whether somebody who is recently vaccinated and is a recent close contact is required (a) to test, and (b) to isolate pending a clear result.

If Pfizer you need to wait 7 days. (Moderna and JJ are 14 days and AZ is 15 days).

...but the country they are in may have different rules.

where in Portugal? I saw in Albufeira that have free walk-in testing, he can get that done for peace of mind. Otherwise you can buy diy tests from the pharmacy for €3 or the pharmacist will do it for you for €10. He’s double jabbed and has tested negative already and presumable has no symptoms.
