Fairly active day , further south then I thought and not much in the NE after this mornings storms went through.

Ended up with 14.2mm here, heard a couple of rumbles in the early afternoon, some very big showers including hail, very localized, drove through some steamy roads after heavy showers and bone dry a bit further down the road. Some nice bright spells especially in the afternoon, breezy on the coast, got up to 17.3C.

Wowser! We knew all about it round here anyway

Someone said to me this evening, 'Sure it was like Orlando at home' 😂

A vigorous area of Lp passing well off the S coasts today into tonight looks like producing a fair bit of instability giving the possibility of thunderstorms over the sea with maybe a few coming close to the coast, might make for a good photographic opportunity later in the day / early Fri morning if there are enough breaks in the cloud cover. Some heavy bursts of rain along Southern coasts . Yellow warning in place.

Some vicious weather in store for south/central Europe over the next 48 hours. Level 3 ESTOFEX.

On a selfish note I see might be in for some action tonight too...

The level 2 over N Sardegna/Corse was re-issued despite meager QPF signals in NWP guidance. I weightened the EPS output more as a few members seem to break the cap. Passing short-wave should add enough input for elevated convection with large hail and heavy rain the main risk. This part of the level 2 remains quite uncertain and is a nocturnal event.

    MESOSCALE DISCUSSION

for updating the evolving nocturnal severe weather event along/just S of the Alps.

Latest WV loop shows a potent vorticity maximum/enhanced moisture gradient at mid/upper levels, which now emerges from E Spain and races NE towards NW Italy. In the meantime, a weaker lead impulse evolves ahead of the main forcing on a slightly polward displaced track over the Alps. The cap, which confined CI mainly along the mountains, should weaken beyond 00Z, as stronger height falls and decreasing H7/H85 temperatures spread E.

Until 00Z, isolated CI over N-Italy into SE Austria (apart from the mountains) is still forecast in the capped airmass - which occurred already during the past few hours on a local scale. Further discrete CI on a isolated to scattered scale is forecast between 00-06Z with multicells/supercells possible - especially within the level 3 area. It has to be seen how many updrafts can mature in the obviously more hostile environment than anticipated yesterday. The main risk remains (very) large hail, severe wind gusts and heavy rain. A few tornadoes are possible e.g. over SE Austria with favorable LL shear/low LCLs.

The next focus is a potential serious flash flood threat for parts of the Lombardy and surrounding areas. With the approaching wave from the SW, strong WAA atop a moist BL inflow from the S/SE assist in a favorable setup for training convection. Strongly curved hodographs with 15-25 m/s 0-3 km shear, a 20kt southerly jet increasing to 35kt at 700hPa with the shear vector pointing normal to the orography and the prolonged period of lift all point to a risk for very effective/excessive rainfall rates/amounts. In addition, CAPE/shear space still supports an ongoing/embedded severe risk with hail and an isolated tornado event.

Some EPS members still show 6h rainfall rates in excess of 150 l/qm, which is certainly possible. Flash flooding is likely in such an environment.

A bit of interest tomorrow evening for the chance of some thunderstorms ( elevated I think ) in the SW. Looks like very little surface CAPE it would seem , most of the instability coming form mid level high theta E layer aided by topographical lift , convergence ,frontal forcing and some decent Deep Layer Shear. Looks a bit marginal but could produce some localized heavy thundery bursts.

was just driving around M50 southbound and weather turned to heavy rain fast with weird looking clouds that I imagined could turn into tornadoes (with no scientific or knowledge basis for this thought). It did feel like the pressure was dropping fast as my ears popped and I could feel some pressure sensation in my head on a level stretch of road.

Not much activity , some showing up overnight / early morning but not sure if some of these sferics are false returns ?

In fact turned out a much better day then expected here in Kerry, sunny and felt quite pleasant, cloud building throughout the day but more so inland, this evening could see shafts of precipitation from Altocumulus, most not reaching the ground, a few drops around 21.00.

Thurs got a mention on Met Eireann's forecast for heavy rain and thunderstorms. Going through the charts showing High Theta E and high Dp's as the Lp moves slowly across the country giving variable wind directions, bit fresh on the coasts at times.

Slow moving storms developing giving some locally heavy rain, Could pop up anywhere maybe getting storms in the early hours also. One to watch,

Why is this page so quiet? Tomorrow to Sunday look like lively days.

Today could have some storms also, big Congestus brewing on Kerry / Limerick border with good sunshine, drove through a heavy shower short time ago.

Quite active today in the NE.

Drove through some very heavy torrential rain in North Kerry this afternoon.

Might get some thunderstorms moving into Atlantic coastal counties overnight especially in the West and possibly moving across Connacht from the advancing fronts making forcing possible with some high LLS and DLS and lift from high terrain helping convection overnight.

Thunderstorms look set to build widely from late morning/ early afternoon. Temperatures should get up to the high teens generally with a fairly high Dp generally of 15C to 16C. High Theta E and CAPE getting into the 400 -600 J/Kg range and higher in pockets perhaps. Good levels of LLS and DLS with decent lapse rates, variable winds giving convergence and divergence. Upper trough has the look of being negatively tilted during peak diurnal heating Some very heavy rain in places no doubt giving the threat of local flooding. Thinking it could be an active day lightning wise and could see funnels and the odd one maybe making it to the ground perhaps, plenty of Vorticity in the atmosphere.

Must be some fairly high cloud tops off the north west coast. Several aircraft have "gone around" some weather.

Off the West coast I expect.

Animation didnt work but can see big convection building off Mayo / Galway

High guys, what would be the best site to follow the slack gradient moving over the country tomorrow? Working with a crane tomorrow so need light winds for a two hour window.
