Great British Food Shortages - Brexit or "Pingdemic"??

Seems to be contradictory claims on food shortages sweeping across Great Britain. Some are blaming the "pingdemic", others blaming Brexit. More and more stories and images from GB suggests a serious developing issue somewhere with a lot of bare shelves and placeholders where product used to be.

Our shelves appear to be full and we don't seem to have this issue. This seems the same on the continent.

There are drivers and some stores coming out now and warning people saying this is 100% Brexit, that there are not enough drivers and the ones who left simply won't go back. Also that it's just much more difficult to do trade with the EU.

If it is the "pingdemic" this might sort itself soon. If it's not and empty shelves continue to get worse there could be serious political consequences sooner rather than later.

What do think? Is this a consequence of Brexit or have the media there been covering up these supply problems under the guise of a "pingdemic"?

I've just been shopping, went to 3 different supermarkets (morrisons, Asda and Iceland) and didn't see any empty shelves.

That's nice dear, but can we stick to the issue at hand. Not your local shopping experience.

This seems to be snowballing for last few weeks and getting worse for them. Already they suspended drivers hourly limits. Who doesn't want a tired HGV driver driving up their rear.

Hope they are forced back to the turnips and bacon just like the good 'ol days which is what many Brexiteers harp back to.

I've heard this from people in the UK - Bare shelves for days in certain sections.

It's obviously part of the next phase of the agenda. They will create food shortages, make people queue for supermarkets, and give preference to the people who have their pharma papers in order.

Let's stick to the facts.

The UK government have within the last few weeks thrashed driving hours rules allowing over driving to occur. This breaking of previous safety orientated rules demonstrates in full they do not have enough drivers to satisfy needs. Some have quantified it as needed between 40k and 50k drivers to fill the gap.

I think we can safely say the hostile environment deployed prior and since brexit and the ludicrous hoops drivers have to go through to work in the UK have murdered the logistics industry as a whole.

This can all be laid at the alter of brexit. Clap clap Tories

It runs much deeper than just a hostile environment towards drivers, EU companies are unable to do intra-country jobs now as well due to Brexit.

It's a problem that could become a very serious one for them as the effects snowball. Now drivers are talking of striking

A cursory glance through twitter would appear to show a lot of people are seeing shortages in their local supermarkets. Not everywhere of course but I guess these things start on the periphery and work their way in.

They might try to blame other things like Pingdemic but this is all down to Brexit.

Trucks of food rotting at ports awaiting on paperwork.

No European truck driver wants to drive to UK due to all the paperwork.

No European logistic company wants to drive to UK as they are returning empty so it's just not cost-effective.

All the Europeans have gone home and the source of running a ad in a paper in Poland for your labor are gone. The people who voted yes are now getting it rubbed in their face while all complaining about not getting their cans of Stella that keeps them going.

Wages are skyrocketing people are deciding which job to take. It's all going to come crashing down soon. Borris is fecked at the next election... He has 3 years to feck it up some more.

The driver shortage has been coming for years and isn't just a UK problem. I drove a truck over 20 years ago and could make 1000 a week which was good money back then but as soon as CPC's and cheap labour flooded the market it ruined the job and i left and started my own business. This is what happens when you treat people like crap and pay them peanuts.
