Handy enough for Kerry in the JM and id expect them to get to the final once again. Grp A is competitive enough and the Westmeath vs Carlow game will be a massive battle, Kildare don't seem to be as strong as previous years but never know. Westmeath the only NHL Division 1 team and i think that will be seen. Kerry vs Westmeath Final with Kerry getting over the line

I do think Offaly screwed up last year and this year will walk the Christy Ring Cup. It's hard to believe only 3 years ago they were in the top tier, if they don't win it than serious questions will be asked, no offence to the other teams in the competition but it's a disgrace for a hurling county like Offaly to be playing at that level. So hard to predict the other finalist but i think Derry will make it. Offaly vs Derry final with Offaly winning

Don't know much about the Nickey Rackard and Lory Meagher cups going with
Mayo vs Donegal with Mayo winning
Louth vs Longford with Longford winning

McDonagh Cup Round 1 full time
    Kerry 2-24 (30)- Down 1-21 (24)

Decent showing by Down against last year's beaten finalists

Down competed well but a lwell taken Shane Conway goal in the second half put the game beyond them.

Good performances from the Boyle brothers for Kerry and from Shane Nolan and Jason Diggins.

McCrickard very good in the first half for Down but was closed down in the 2nd.

Fair play to Offaly. I believe that this time in the wilderness will have done them the world of good and will stand to them in the long term. The team has been rejuvinated. A bit like Glasgow Rangers getting demoted to the bottom divisions of the Scottish league and coming back stronger than ever. Given their league results this year, next year's Joe McDonagh may also be a foregone conclusion.

On a completely different note I couldn't get over the amount of guts on display in the Lory Meagher final. I realise that those guys are in the fifth tier of intercounty hurling but still - it was like watching a Junior B match at times!
