That’s a serious amount of wasted space before. It’s the same in isha’s post above too. But on desktop, I can at least see easily who is posting each post.

It's... different. I miss 90's webforums. We live, we evolve I guess.

This is painful, I assumed it would be better or at least the same this is just difficult.

Ah lads... what have ye done????

    • As with the god-awful "responsive" site, there is so much wasted white space everywhere - and this is the desktop version!
    • The top menu bar is reduced even further and (unless I'm missing something), doesn't pop-up when you hover making it even harder to get around as it opens a new page instead
    • My favourites/Bookmarks now seems to be every thread, rather than the forums themselves?
    • No dark theme.. ye had a week and couldn't put that in? Makes the whole thing very hard to read (see also point 1)
    • The "touch" version has gone from clean and readable to cluttered and cramped (ironic considering the first point again!)
    • "Vanilla" is an appropriate name for this platform - it's bland, flat, generic and has lost the flavour of the old site.

Of course I know none of what people here are posting will be heeded and dismissed as the "usual whinging" (as the customer engagement hasn't changed!), but I have a feeling that despite the talk of the benefits this new platform will supposedly offer users, this change was more about making the devs lives easier than anything else.

If the plan is to overhaul most of the issues raised above, then ye shouldn't have launched this in the state it's in now, as all I can see this doing is driving more users off the site!

It burns. I never use function stripped touch. Where's the off button!!!?

Just noticed that viewing the threads on PC, there's no way to return to the forum if you're at the bottom of the thread... So you've to scroll all the way back to the top in order to leave the thread and go back to the forum!

Has the "My Forums" feature disappeared? secondly the My Discussions tab is all out of order

Also difference in that you can leave the car at the side of the road and walk away which plenty will.

This was meant to be a quote of a post but guess that doesn't work either.

As is tradition - this is what is about to occur:

    -Change things

    -Invite feedback from users

-Disagree with the feedback, vague justification of undesireable changes.

    -Fob the users off.

-Convince themselves they're required to make the hard decisions and persevere because they know better than the pesky 'users'.

-Dig heels in and proceed. Implement 'Like it or leave' or 'no one is forcing you to stay' mentality.

    -Lock thread citing 'unconstructive feedback'.

    -Fin.

How can one edit one's profile? EG invisibility mode or change icon?

Edited to add: Okay, this was nice and interesting and everything but I will have my old shoes back now, please!

That's the only good thing I've found so far.

The looks and all can be gotten used to no problems, even the extra presses, but going to the last post instead of directly to the first unread post in a thread is criminal at this stage.

@isha simple answer for the moment right now is - you can't. There's only a few options available to edit on your own profile currently. Presumably it's another thing that will need to be resolved. Le sigh.

(Not quoting you because that bloody whitespace for quotes drives me bonkers)

    First load : Its slower

First impressions : Its harder to navigate and a step back on the design of the old boards

Deeper impression : They have just skinned an inferior bulletin board and have lost most of the functionality and customisation that have made Boards what it was on the original platform

Conclusion : .... I hope ye go back

    This is awful.

I cant find any of my previously followed threads.

    Navigation is ridiculous.

    Site just crashed for me

Am I right saying that you aren't "following" a thread anymore after making a comment? You have to actually bookmark the thread?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,515 ✭✭✭✭Lumen

I dunno, but my icon has reverted to one I haven't used in years.

Also, there's no obvious markup mode and quotes can't be edited, which means there appears to be no way to quote part of someone's post.

    That is bad.

    It's an abomination.

I don't understand how this was allowed to go ahead like this surely you would of tested this Vanilla shite to see how it performs and how layout works before jumping all in?

your image overlaps the sidebar and your long name makes your sidebar longer, I wonder can we do infinite cascading quotes again?

What in the name of jaysus were ye thinking.

nope. Also edit(1 day) , we have one day to edit I guess?

Sorry to jump on the negative train, but after a few minutes trying to use the new version I'm in the same boat. Navigation is much harder, too much empty space. Search function brings up ancient threads and doesn't seem to suggest the forum (i.e. search for "DIY" and the forum used to appear. Now you just get old threads with the keyword in the title).

    Old version worked really well.

Yeah it’s also missing the ‘Top’ option at the bottom of the page that would let you jump back to the top of that page with a single click. At least on mobile you have the option to get back to the forum handy enough.

The row of options under every post is a bit messy. And it’s a shame to have lost the ‘thanks’. But I suppose I’ll quickly get used to it.

Well done boards. I was wasting far to much time here anyway and your excessive downtime and poor new design mean I won't spend as much time here as I would have in the past. I'd a list of posts to make but at this stage I really can't be bothered. Even the bl00dy advertising is a disaster the first advert I see is for a product that shouldn't even be advertised, I click on it and it takes me off boards ie and its on a site I couldn't even buy from if I wanted to. Normally I'd flag that but currently can't be bothered.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Don't like it. What a waste of a few days off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,581 ✭✭✭Irish_rat

This is a travesty, go back to what boards was please for the love of god.

A lot of users will leave if this remains IMO.

Who actually wanted a new UI in the first place, think everyone was content as it was.
