My father wants to trade in his VW Caddy. He intends on having a van but would like a bit more comfort, i.e of a car.

He's not interested in the VW Golf van.

    Any other recommendations?

What year is he looking at as most car derived van's are no longer made now because the manufacturers stopped producing the 3 door cars they were based on. The Mk3 Ford Focus car van was sold up to about 2018 as it was based on the 5 door. Hyundai did a 3dr van version of the i30 too called the i30 Pro. Toyota sold the Auris van in 5 door form too. There are also a number of commercialised crossovers if that would interest him, Nissan Qashqai, Ford Kuga, Hyundai ix35, Tucson etc.

Brother drives a Kona van for work, not much more space than a golf van etc but slightly higher up so perhaps easier for putting things in and out of.

Does he use the van for carrying stuff around, or does he prefer a van to a car?

He does, he's a tradesman almost retired but still tipping away with small jobs, he's had a few small vans like Caddys and Transit Connects but wants to trade in for a commercial type of car, no rear seats.

The car conversions won’t take anywhere near the abuse in the back that a van would.

Now if it’s a nice trade like electrician that won’t matter!

Nothing bulky or messy, just power tools and the like so it won't be taking much abuse. He'll be looking to trade in a 2019 Caddy so I'd say anything from a 2017 up

    What’s the budget roughly?

Seat do an Ateca commercial, which might work

Seat did an Altea XL commercial too. Well within budget I’d say.

Yeah she’s no beauty queen but they’re quite big in the back and will have a bitter driving position than the Caddy. Mechanicals are old school mk5 Golf stuff too.
