Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    So the bookies record you’ve won €2000 and do what with the information?

    Fair enough if people were betting large sums of money that could reflect laundering but winning it?

    Im half guessing here but bookies set their own odds, so in theory if you wanted to launder money, you could give me 10000e, I could set odds of 100/1 on a horse, you bet 100e, the horse wins, I hand over the 10000 euro and you have a traceable source of your income.

    By asking for id you discourage this scenario, as you are leaving a paper trail. You might pop up on some radar but as long as its legit and you don't become part of a pattern you are fine.

    Is it possible for this to pop up on some credit score with applying for a mortgage?

    As Darc19 has said, it's the AML regs now that all bookies have to abide by.
    There should be signs in the shop to say what they are and why they ask for ID.
    Gambling was the easiest way to launder money in the past but this has mainly now been stopped with the ID requirement.
    Stake or win 2k and over, you have to supply any bookie with the details asked for, no way around it.

    Online yes, in shop no if you use cash.
