    Finished a project and thought I would share.

    During lock-down 2, I picked up (from a member here, sight unseen/unfired) a 1958 Brno Model 5 Lux, aka the famous and elusive ZKM573 as a refurb project to keep the mind and hands busy. In the US they are commonly called a (“bit-ser”, or a “bas****) because the rifle was made up of various parts which already existed.

    I think I’ll name her “Mongrel”; a Brno Model 1 Barrel paired to a Brno Model 4/or sometimes a 2 Action, a purpose made trigger and stocked in a re-designed/re-cut Model 1 Stock. Total Made approx. 33,000 (15,000 for mil contract as mil trainer rifles for Middle East (Egypt, Syria, etc) and 18,000 for Civilian use.

    Does it shoot – you bet, happy happy days.

    Total strip down to bare wood/metal; finished with six coats of Tru-Oil plus three coats of stock wax, metal re-blue with Birchwood Casey Super Blue. For a home DIY job, I'm happy with the results.

    Eight out of ten in the nine ring��, for 63 years young, this lady can still dance with the best of them. More use/familiarity and more ammo testing should (I hope) give better results, fingers crossed.

    Lovely rifle, great job on the stock :), and obviously it shoots quite well :) (just straighten the crosshairs :) )

    Ah yes, the crooked crosshairs :(, maybe its my eyes D, now fixed.:D:D

    UPDATE

    Still experimenting with my newly acquired 58 Brno M5, aka the Mongrel :).

    Thanks to Feisar here I installed an Eric Brooks trigger spring (no 3 one I think), it reduced the trigger pull down from 3 lbs to 1.6 lbs, no creep so no shims needed, super crisp release now.

    Heres a group from last weekend shot with Eley Team, happy:D

    Sweet group! I've read about lads in the US using springs from pens to get insanely light triggers, never tried it myself though.

    First they came for the socialists...

    I dont think you need go as far as the states :)

    I might have used pen springs to lighten certain components in the past :)

    I tried it once on a CZ 452 American, it'd go off on closing the bolt about one time out of ten.

    Sound Feiser, I have read that also. Seems to work fine for BR work with rifle safely on a bench, reported as far too light for vermin work though.

    Mine was a 17HMR and I was fiddling to see how light I could get it purely for academic reasons, a trigger that light isn't really of benefit in the field, IMHO of course.

    First they came for the socialists...
