Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    Hi,

    I'm looking at a potential purchase of a second hand house with a large garden. However, there is a public drain running through the garden over which I'd want to build upon.

    Does anyone have a sense of what it would cost to get it moved? Not looking for an accurate figure but is it €10k, €20k, €50k etc?

    Question first would be can the sewer be moved (rather than how much) and that's very hard to tell from here?

    Depending on the fall of the pipe/invert levels to adjoining manholes, Irish Water are unlikely to want to move the pipe if re-routing means that will give an inadequate fall to the pipe.

    If you are looking to buy the house, it is unlikely that you will get the definitive answer you may need?

    I’d put the costs at €20k plus if it’s a public drain.
    I’ve come across it before and it stopped domestic extensions in their tracks.

    You also have to have a way leave around them.

    Are you 100% sure it’s a public pipe?
