Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    The closing off of Merrion Row coming from Merrion Street is an absolute disaster. Just for a couple of restaurants who lobbied for it. Once Winter comes along no one will want to sit outside there. All the traffic now backed up on Merrion Street, Pembroke Street, Ely Place and Leeson Street now. It's totally clogged in the mornings. It is impossible to get around the City now. This closing off lanes and lanes of traffic is absolutely madness and has to stop. It has also made journeys on buses impossible, people will eventually vote with their feet and stop coming into the City.

    I fail to see how traffic can be backed up on Pembroke St or Ely Place as a result of the closure of Merrion Row?

    They are both one way travelling away from Merrion Row.

    That's great news, maybe you'll leave your car outside the city centre now. The footpath on Marrion row was dangerously narrow before and now it's possible to pass people coming the other way and people who depend on wheelchairs can actually visit the street. Your selfish desire for 90% of the public space for your through journey has thankfully been refuted.

    I'm all for it. As someone who works in the area, the previous layout was a joke. Massive unmarked roadways leading to aggressive driving, undertaking, speeding, illegal parking with hazards on. Meanwhile the plebs on two feet had to shuffle along tiny, badly maintained pavements, hoping that they don't get knocked sideways by people exiting shops or hopping out of cars or between illegally parked cars.

    So, as someone who actually spends 8/10 hours a day in the area, yes, I'm all for it and think the fact that you're not crammed in like a rat when walking around will actually benefit the businesses around there.

    The only people I see complaining are people who use the area as a commuting corridor/ shortcut. Difficult to feel much sympathy for them.

    It's a great addition to the area. Makes it much more pleasant for people that live or work in the vicinity.

    Yeah, but think of the drivers passing through the area to park up on Fitz Square. Please think of the drivers.
