I hope Yates and Almedia go early

They have to drop as many of the Ineos Doms as soon as possible

There is a 1000m straight drop for someone like Nibali to have fun with if they are still near the front

Bike Exchange taking it up early on the first climb! Could be fireworks later if Bernal shows any weakness before the final climb, Splugenpass is a good point to attack, steepest towards the top!

Issue is the Ineos Doms > Bike Exchange Doms at climbing so Bernal will have at least Puccio and Martinez left you'd think.

Kelly and his chainshaw story !!!!

Kelly telling a story from Nissan Classic of a fallen tree blocking the road and someone taking a chainsaw out of the boot to clear a way... it might have been Stephen Roches manager!

That said hearing a chainsaw from side of the road is a bit unsettling.

From a few stages back, that's one way to get Bernal to ride fast up hill!

Wow what a view up at the top there. Proper Giro climb needs the snow at the sides of the road.

Rob Hatch is quite right for once — there hasn't been enough of these big climbs in this Giro.

Carusso and bardet now 20 seconds on the bunch, some excitement now!

Interesting DSM tactics... looks like Roche sacrificed himself on last climb to bring peleton closer to the break and now Bardet with other DSM riders have bridged across to the break. Gap at 20 seconds but as Caruso bridged across Ineos are now chasing.

What Sean omitted to mention was that on that day, he broke away with Sean Yates and the pair built up a substantial lead in the poor weather. On the finishing circuit, the two were descending at over 80 kmh from Dillons Cross down to the city centre in teeming rain. While the circuit did go up Patrick's Hill, it actually finished on Patrick's Quay where Kelly gifted the stage to Yates. Kelly himself moved into yellow as a result of that attack.

BikeExchange must not want to win the Giro

They should have let Ineos chase ...they are their competetiors

I'm still a little puzzled how this guy (and his buddy behind with a Stihl saw) didn't appear to attract an instant robust response from the Carabinieri.
In the hands of a nutcase seeking to do harm, a chainsaw is capable of inflicting a lot of horrifying damage very quickly.
I very much doubt these jokers ran their proposed 'support' technique past the race organisers and security beforehand, and even though they obviously (in hindsight!) had no ill-intent, and I would sincerely hope they had no chain on the saws, it's still a crazy thing to be at.
2 unknown persons with running chainsaws leaping out from the roadside to chase a rider should, in my opinion, have attracted the same reaction as if they had been swinging swords or firing guns in the air.

Chainsaws are a bit of a thing with spectators at Downhill MTB races, however before they crank them up, the users take the chains out.
There was a Canadian Downhiller, Steve Smith, (sadly no longer with us) whose nickname was Chainsaw.

Some cahoonies on Vlasov attacking on such a treacherous descent.

Interesting setup for the final climb! Caruso beat Bernal in the opening TT by 7 seconds, if he can get the gap down to around half a minute he's probably got half a shout tomorrow!

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,727 ✭✭✭✭Inquitus

Yates needs to attack near the bottom you'd think if he is to gain enough time to put himself in the frame for the Pink Jersey!

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,257 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

No matter how the stage ends, fair play to Caruso for attacking since nearly everyone thought that he would ride defensively.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,257 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

Martinez will probably be able to stay on the front for the majority of this climb

Yep the strength of the Ineos Dom's has really helped Bernal with hanging onto the Jersey, they are by far the strongest team at the race.

    Cmon Caruso!!

Hope Caruso gets the stage. Bardet hasn’t helped a leg (probably can’t)
