Thank you for the reply. Can I add version 6.3 through Windows explorer? as I have been trying to use a USB key as per "How to flash a Tiviar Alpha+" from WOS and the USB is not kicking in to load the 6.3

OpenATV changed the flashing mechanism, some time ago. You need to go into Software management - Flash Online. If you're online you can select version 6.3 and download it directly. Otherwise, just browse to the USB.

I have installed ver 6.3 and Autobouguets E2. I've scanned for the channels and I think I have them all. I recall I had CrossEPG on the system so I downloaded it and it comes on for a second and goes off without it kicking in.

I don't use Autobouguets E2, so can't help there. You no longer need CrossEPG, just ensure that EPGRefresh is installed and set up. (There are instructions somewhere on this thread.)

Any body having a problem with software updates. My receiver hasn't had an update in about 2months always coming up with 0 updates available

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,252 ✭✭✭greasepalm

I pass on the online updates and only upgrade image about every 6 months.

Not sure if everybody keeps on doing software updates?

If you take a standard modern TV such as an LG it has both Sat and terrestrial tuners, all the apps such as netflix , Disney and rte player and is able to record to a hardrive . So what Is the main advantages of using boxes like the Tiviar AlphaPlus over just using the TV?

I have tried to give an idea in the first few posts. :)

I'm running NCMs OpenATV 6.3 on a Tivia box
I'm having quite a bit of pixilated issues - only on the IPTV stream (not on tuner channels). Down and up bandwidth is 50/20Mbs respectively tru Cat5. There's no pixilation on phone or tablet from the same stream so the issue seems to be box related.
The IPTV provider says that it's most likely caused by a media player problem and I should use ExtPlayer for Live TV.
Can you tell me how to set ExtPlayer as my media player, or any other suggestions to get rid of the pixilation.
    Thanks!!

I deliberately provide no support for IPTV. Few legal services can be played on the Tiviar, as it doesn't support Digital Rights Management (DRM).

The reason you are seeing 0 updates is that whatever version of OpenATV you are using is no longer supported.

The Tiviar is now quite old and I have stopped doing software updates. The latest builds of OpenATV require quite an amount of work to upgrade, with no tangible benefit.

I restarted my box and now I'm not getting any terrestrial channels. Tried two different aerials and still nothing. Tried to scan but it is not picking up anything. Any ideas?

I also can't do an automatic scan. Doesn't seem to do anything. Struck at 0%

Is there in abm an update for new listings and what version is abm on as every now and again abm needs an update.

I would connect the aerials directly to the TV, first. This will rule out any issue with those.

Next I would update the providers in ABM, just in case it's a configuration issue.

Then I would reinstall OpenATV, using my build, or whatever version you prefer.

Aerial working fine on the TV. Says providers don't need updating. Will try the reinstall

If the reinstall doesn't work, it is likely a hardware failure. It isn't the power supply unit, as the satellite services are working. Detailed troubleshooting requires specialised test equipment and expertise.

You could use a USB terrestrial tuner, as a replacement. If you search other posts you'll get some info on these.

I reinstalled custom build 20200124.zip but doesn't seem to be any change.

Wondering about the connection at this stage.

After reinstalling my build you should try updating the providers again.

After that it is either a hardware failure or a connection issue.

    What location are you in?

When setting up tuners on box select dvb/t/t2 and do a scan on that only without scanning on other sat

Mt Leinster region. All that seems set up correctly. Nothing happens in a scan. Think the connection might be not working sadly

When using my build, or any other build that uses ABM, you do the scan WITHIN ABM. When you do this the terrestrial bouquet is recreated, with any changes.

If using my last build there is no need to update ABM, but it is never any harm to update the providers,

Yeah, that is a classic symptom of a failing electrolytic capacitor. Over time it can build up enough charge to fire the PSU. Unless you have the equipment, and ability, it is not an easy fix. Using a replacement power supply seems the way to go.

Similar issues with my power supply. The big 450V/150uF cap 'leaked' on the board. I replaced the cap with a new one, but still no lights on the front panel. I'm wondering if the failed cap may have caused damage to other components on the board....
That said, do you know any place who may have the know-how to repair the board, or, where I can purchase a replacement PSU.
