A nice gentle recovery stage after yesterday's efforts on the dirt roads! 212km with 3,700m of elevation and it will be interesting to see if the GC contenders race it hard or if they just watch each other with one eye on what's yet to come.

Likely to be one where the break stays away, although with Bernal looking so strong you never know :)

Looks like Marc Soler may have to abandon after a crash. He's out the back already and crawling along behind the team car

Now De Marchi has had a nasty crash and is out

Looks a bad crash for de marchi

Dowsett was also out the back earlier after the Soler crash.

    Soler abandon as well.

Dowsett also confirmed as abandon - must have taken a fairly heavy knock

I really love the intricate nature of the break and everything that goes into it! so much to think about

Even if he hadn't lost a shedload of minutes yesterday, both Dowsett and De Marchi abandons would severely impact Dan M's podium ambitions

Masnada has now abandoned also according to Rob Hatch

Bit of a disaster for ISN - Is there any merit to mailing in the rest of the race and save riders for other grand tours later in the season?

Masnada has now abandoned also according to Rob Hatch

    And Gino Mader

Was there a huge crash that took them all out or what?

Soler had a silly crash about 3km into the stage

De Marchi ran off the road on the inside of a bend

Mader seems to have some bug / illness

Dowsett has "stomach problems" (the sh!ts)

Don't know what happened to Masnada.

I had high hopes for Masnada when he joined DQS off the back of a great series of results in 2019. Now I can't see him getting a renewal there this year.

Masnada has had a few cases of riding for himself rather than the team as well, with no end result, which probably didn't go down well at QS either.

Almeida came out in portuguese press saying that he was pretty much riding for himself, and only eventually dropped back to help evanepoel due to the DS shouting down the earpiece at him.
Evanepoel said he didnt have a problem with the gravel, the problem was with 'bad legs'.

    Sure Remco.

Was that a team changing another team's wheel? Didn't Team Sky/Orica get done for that a few years ago?

Edit: Maybe it was just a push :pac:

Maybe the Blue jerseys (Eolo and Astana) confused the mechanic and he thought he was helping his own guy. Nice to see all the same.

Didn't he do that a bit last year in the Giro, I seem to remember that maybe even on the Stelvio stage he rode ahead of Almeida for a while.

De Marchi collected quite an array of injuries in his crash

"Dema was taken to hospital and was diagnosed with a broken right collarbone and six broken ribs. He also broke his first and second thoracic vertebra. He did not suffer any head injury, but does have to stay in the hospital for at least one night."
