He lost the house, senate and presidency in 2 years.
    And ended with an insurrection.

    Not a great association.
    I love it.

put that loss in context too.

Biden was vanilla - not an inspired choice for "the left" and a career politician which would put off a lot of folk, but he still won.

Trump enlisted help from China, the Ukraine etc to try and dirty up biden/his son, Biden still won.

The economy (on the face of it) was doing relatively well - Biden still won

Fox, OAN, FB, YouTube, Twitter were all used to maximum potential - Biden still won

Trump was in charge of the postal service, assisted by significant voter suppression - Biden still won.

Trump put 3 SCOTUS judges in lifetime positions - Biden still won.

Trump is not invincible. The GOP are being dragged along by him in the main. They don't have him by choice. They are being pulled significantly to the right and in 3 year's time, a LOT of mainstream Republicans will not go near him. He'll get the crazies, and heaven knows there are a lot of them in the U.S., but that won't be enough to beat a half decent Dem IMHO.

Yeah - mixed feelings about this tbh

    1) James campaigned on going after trump. This always irked me

    2) announcing a state criminal investigations means they can't be subject to a pardon

    3) why would trump fight the release of taxes unless there was a there there

    4) taxes did get capone

    5) the CFO was cooperating, so my guess is that he isn't the target

    6) criminal charges against the org will be extremely damaging to the brand (it has already suffered with the Trump stink, losing contacts etc)

    7) criminal charges means proof of intent, beyond a reasonable doubt, so she must be confident she has the goods

    Edit

    8) I've been disappointed before

Fantastic subtweet by Michael Beschloss - quite timely, as ever

It says a lot for Cruz, Hayley and Romney that Trump Jr., who has zero political background is ahead of them.

And it also says a lot for the Republican party in terms of what they are offering America when two "celebrities" in Trump and Trump Jr. who really have zero policies and really zero fxxks about the entire populations welfare as a whole are the number 1 and 3 choice.

Trump Jr appearing anywhere on such a list is an incredible indictment of the country.

Even Donald didn't see fit to utilise him in any way while he was in office.

    It certainly does.

I love to know what genuine old school Republicans make of all this. I'm not at all interested in what Trumptards have to say. That type has nothing going on upstairs. But, surely, there are people who've voted Republican before the likes of Reagan, Bush and Trump that must feel that the party they once believed in has taken a real turn for the absolute worst over the past 40 years? Thus reaching a deep, deep, nadir at the present time.

Will it get by the Senate?

Fairly significant amount of Reps in the House voted for it...

As of right this minute, it doesn't look like it'd get through the Senate, but it's early.

35 QGOP voted for it in the House, including the 10 that voted for the 2d impeachment. A nice number. Not enough.

I can't see how it wouldn't. It isn't like any of the dems would vote against it and Romney will probably vote for it. I would be surprised if Harris is required to cast her deciding vote.

It needs 60 to pass the senate, no role for the VP.
They need the 7 who voted to impeach +3.

Assuming the 175 who voted no were all GOP, then 175 + 35 is 210. So 35 of the 210 who voted yes means 16.66% of the House GOP voted Yes.

16.66% of the 50 Senate GOP would only be 8 or 9, but then you have to add in the McConnell factor too and he's already come out against it. So I can't see it happening tbh.

    American politics is so f*cked....

“Are you absolutely certain none of your members were in any communication with any of the people who stormed Capitol Hill?” The reporter asked.

McCarthy didn’t even wait for the end of the question to softly say “I don’t believe that they are.

“But thank you for the question. Everybody have a nice day,” the ranking GOP House member — before abruptly halting the news conference and walking away.

Standard RICO game plan playing out there.

Threaten him with what at his age would be life in prison for all the crap he knows or offer him a deal to roll on the next person up the ladder.

So do you think Liz Cheney's Primary Q-challenger has a shot?

    https://twitter.com/SethAbramson/status/1395766208314630145?s=20

It kind of scares me that the GQP wing of the GOP seems to be simultaneously be "#SaveTheChildren" but spends a lot of time pushing teen-molesters up the political ladder. At any rate, I don't think Liz Cheney has much to fear from this opponent, a lot of the work against his campaign will come her way for free in the form of public pressure on it.

Speaking of underage sex, more bad news for Gaetz.

First Greenburg enters a co-operation agreement, now his ex-girlfriend is helping the feds too..

You then had another fine gop member saying this.

“Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, during an interview on a conservative podcast this week, compared House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's decision to continue to require members of the House to wear masks on the chamber floor to steps the Nazis took to control the Jewish population during the Holocaust.”

    Nothing from Kevin McCarthy.

    Kevin McCarthy is pathetic.

How the GOP needs a Paul Ryan (for all that I dislike about him) right now.

EDIT: Literally searched his name after posted this and found: https://www.axios.com/paul-ryan-adam-kinzinger-anti-trump-978dc4be-3e68-408a-8487-ca29fbb86583.html

Hopefully he becomes more of a public figure.
