    Hi all..

Is bringing cars in from germany, france etc not an option for irish dealers?

Over the last number of weeks i've come to realise there's very little value to be had in the 2nd hand market. Im assuming this is down to brexit and the uk cars no longer coming across the water.

I thought a budget of 5-6K would get me something decent enough but how wrong i was.

the last car i bought was in 2013. I bought a 2008 vectra 1.6 with 130'Km on the clock for €4400. which was great value for 5 year old car. and in fairness it served me well.

now im looking around the dublin garages, dondeal, carzone etc...and all 5-6K will get is 10 year old car with 180Km on the clock sometimes 200K. I walked around some forcourts and saw nothing but rubbish.

I honestly dont know where i stand. Has anyone travelled over to continental europe and purcahse a car and how did they go about it? id appreciate the info..
    thanks

It would be left hand drive, so very difficult to insure.

I briefly looked at cars in Spain, and they were no cheaper than here.

Cyprus and Malta are the only two RHD countries in the EU, and they're both smaller markets than here, wouldn't be worth the bother

@OP Here you go. They are a bit smaller than a Vectra but are a lovely car.

Those words have never been used in conjunction with a Chevy Cruze

Generally no cheaper than here (used prices often much higher), specs can be crap not to mention the LHD issue.
2013 was sort of a low point in used prices as we were only just coming out of recession and those mid-late 2000s years were bumper sales years with a big glut around. Also the tax changes in mid 2008 had a huge impact on anything pre then.
There’s a big shortage of petrol and hybrid now too especially.
