Potty Training on Shared Lawn

    Hi All,

    I live in an estate that is a complex of duplexes. I'm getting a pup soon. Just at the end of our cul-de-sac there is a park where I intend to walk my dog (just a minutes walk away). However, closer, behind my house there is a lawn that is shared among all the duplexes on my side of the cul-de-sac. Just wondering if it would be kosher to allow my pup to pee there and maybe wash down the grass with a bottle of water. Not sure what the etiquette is in urban areas.

    Pee is fine, don't worry about it. Try and not let the pup poop there because it's toxic and harder to clean from the grass.

    No opinions on the puppy peeing - though I suppose it should be asked, do children play there? And if it is a bitch puppy there could eventually be dead patches.

    I just posted to say I boggled at the title till I looked left and saw it was in Pets and not Parenting.

    Thanks for the quick reply! Yeah, I was guessing it would be fine for peeing. It would mainly be for night time pee breaks anyway.

    If the pup is a bitch her pee will burn the grass so best to have her pee elsewhere. Gravel is always good if there is any. I assume you’ll be bringing the dog out on the lead for toileting? Training the dog to pee and poop on command from the off is always useful. I use seperate words (‘go pee’ and ‘quickly’ for poops). It is quite easy to do.

    Agree.. and it is a SHARED lawn. If it were the OPs lawn. fine. And yes gravel is much better.
