    Hi folks.
Has anyone had any experience with exterior wall insulation and ESB meter boxes.
Is the meter box re-positioned to accommodate the new wall thickness or
Is the insulation somehow neatly fitted around the box.
If the latter, how is a cold thermal bridge avoided.

    Thankyou.

Build a small Independent detached wall beside the house for the meter

    Thanks syd,thats worth investigating.
Was this just a suggestion or have you seen it done in practice?
The esb meter box installation guide is limited as to where the box can be sited.
It offers no option of a box in a wall thats remote from the building.

Contact esb to clarify, but this solution is one that is acceptable to them

Doing an end terrace at moment. ESB meter was in hallway. Moved it to side of house into a new domestic box which was fitted into the external EWI.New meter installed as ESB rolling out these new smart meters.

    Thanks syd.
I like the idea of a remote structure to house the esb box and will seek advice from esb.
My only reservation is how long the copper tails from meter to consumer unit will be.
Consumer unit has to be at high level so i'm thinking the tails would have to be about 5-6M long.
Anyone know if thats feasable ?

    TIA

    mad m.

I wish it were that straightforward.
I cant do EWI until new dormer roof is done as walls are going higher.
I cant do dormer roof until power lines are re-routed from chimney stack to underground.
I can't run power lines through ducting to new esb box in wall until EWI is done.
