    Hi,

I don't know where to even post for this but decided to give this a shout.

I was made redundant last month. I am starting with the job search but finding networking on Linkedin very very difficult.

I thought that it would be good to get some advise on same. If anybody knows of anybody who can get in touch or can give me some tips it would be appreciated.

    Cheers

    Gavin

    Hey Gavin,

Honestly for me I wouldn't waste your money, I use LinkedIn a lot for work. Make sure you put your profile on "open to work" state your sector of interest and you'll get a nice banner on your profile pic. Connect with HR, Recruiters, specialist agency staff, managers from companies you want to work for etc. That work in your area of interest, either when you send connection request or before feel free to send them a message stating what you're interested in.
    You should be fine

Regarding being able to suggest someone? I've never used one nor know anyone that has used one so I can't help you there

Hope it works out for you

Linkedin lately is becoming filled with platitudes. And apprections for "special employees" who went above and beyond etc etc. Before the pandemic I would have probably said sure give it a try OP, but now the paeans of praise of employee hero are getting tiresome.

Find someone who advertises themselves as a LinkedIn coach and just copy the way they do their profile...

Regarding the networking part, what I've seen is people heavily like and comment on people's posts, and use this to win favour with people. For example, imagine if you wrote a post about why you shouldn't literally crap on your customer (or whatever nonsense people write about these days on LinkedIn!) and someone replied with a really nice comment. They then sent you a message. You'd be much more open to it, right?

I have successful experience of using LinkedIn to ultimately make contacts which resulted meaningful conversations about potential opportunities and ultimately a job.
I can give you a PM over the weekend if you wish. If you'd like me to do this, send me a PM detailing your situation and I can respond with that in mind.
It's not just about how your profile looks, but obviously who you connect with and how you engage with them.
