I'm envious, and have been looking at .303 Martini's for sale in the UK and further afield over the past few night. I love single shots. There seems to have been a massive cache of military rifles of all kinds sold off out of Somalia. Of course the vast bulk of them have gone to the States.

Mine was printed on the box, I think most are 1/2 x 20.

One option is to bring it to a dealer and they will be able to tell you.

Collected my new CZ 457 LRP this week. And I have a new Elements Helix 6-24x50mm to go on top. Don't know when I'll get out to shoot it, but the back field will do to get it zeroed in.

The main reason for getting the LRP over the MTR was the stock. And the difference in price, + €300.
And I sold the wifes other liver and bought the Eliments Helix 6-24x50mm scope.

I picked up my new tikka T1x 22lr and krg bravo chassis yesterday.

I Had a few shots with it today to get it zerod.
It was quite breezey but I managed to shoot a few decent groups.

Stupid question........but if it was once fully auto, are you allowed to get it converted to straight-pull? I thought recent enough EU law stopped that carry on.

Haha, 7.62x54R isn't too bad honestly, cheaper than 308 by a bit, and the surplus stuff is cheaper by a good chunk.

Problem would be supply since it is an oddball by Irish standards.

Remember being in a gunshop in Czech and seeing a box of 500 7.62x54R for €160!

Now x39 was cheaper but for fullsize rifle ammo it'd be hard to find cheaper than .32 cents a round.

I always fancied a Sako made Mosin Nagant in 7.62x54r. Doubt there are many sitting on dealers shelves gathering dust though. The x39 ? The ammo is dirt cheap and people like CZ do nice little bolt actions in that calibre, think Ruger do too. Be a great centrefire plinker.

Or an SKS converted to straight pull as non restricted!

Not so much, you'd need to either import it yourself or get a dealer to do it.

It is dirt cheap but sourcing would be the issue.

Yeah, there’s no bans on converting full auto to anything other than semi auto. You could convert it to lever release or MARS action if you had the time and knowledge, a little more practical than a bolt action.

Doesn't the latest EU directive not allow anything that was originally full auto?

I don't think so, the newest directive I hear about was the 2017 one and that only bans full auto to semi auto conversions. It doesn't mention anything about any other conversions. I read something about conversions that were already licensed would be effectively grandfathered in, but I might be wrong.

Gave the .22 a little make over.
upgraded trigger internals to volquartsen
added an extended mag release.
made a kydex cheek riser at work, double sided taped it on with decent tape so no drilling the stock.
and gave the stock and mod a spray with chameleon green plastidip paint.

If only I had time to shoot it!!

How is this rifle going for you Clive?

No not yet, but getting there. It's a little better than my CZ 455 thumb-hole 16".

I have only been shooting from the bench twice now, last Saturday and Sunday. Trying all different ammo SK standard, SK rifle match, SK pistol match, Lupua centre X, RWS R50, RWS R100, RWS special match. Shooting at 50m.
Lupua centre X was best @12mm x 10 shot group, as shown below. SK rifle match was good.

This was on the Saturday, and that night I changed out the trigger spring and got the pull weight down from 3lb to 1bl 3oz. And tightened the action screws to 30lb up from 25lb. Now on Sunday it woudn't hold a group under 15mm. Might be the action screws are now too tight.

I'm wasn't getting consistence tight groups that I expected from a 1180 Euro rifle. 15mm to 20mm groups was about the average. Still it's early days yet. I'm getting plenty of 4 and 5 shots all touching but then the groups will open up, to another touching small group say 10mm away. I'm not blaming the rifle it's me, I know it is. I've a few more changes to do yet (I always have )

I'm really liking the Elements Helix mrad 6-24x50mm scope.Very clear glass.

Short answer,yes and no. IF it was select-fire,it has to be destroyed and be rebuilt using the parts that are allowable to a civilian modern sporting rifle config,and be physically impossible to convert back using normal domestic tools..

IF it was a semi-auto-only rifle issued to a military IE something like the SKS, SVD, M1 carbine etc, you are good to go, as it never had the select-fire capability.
So you would have to destroy the selectfire configuration and rebuild it as a straight pull.ver

Correct. Unless it has been destroyed and the legal for civillian use parts are used in an MSR rebuild

My curiosity would be with things like the M1 Carbine which had a kit issued to convert it to M2(FA).

It was originally an M1, semiauto, then converted to FA as an M2, sometimes the receiver was remarked as M2, sometimes not, then at some point it was sold into civilian use and the FA M2 parts removed.

So any guesses, from SA to FA and back again classed as prohib or not?
Once an FA always a FA, or would the M1 even without the M2 parts installed be the FA?
