    Here, There. It's cute enough

I'm So Tired. Sounds so much better than above

Strawberry Fields. I really like this. Not sure what it's about though. Is it about drugs??

Help. I know this and like the song. Was tough to choose between both these, but I like the message in Help so that gets my vote here

Good Day Sunshine. Cute enough, but they say 'good day sunshine' too many times for my liking

Sun King. Nicely chilled rather than too slow and boring.
I think there was an ad on t.v that used the music in this, but I can't place it?

Cry Baby Cry. I'd listen to this over the above song

Everybodys Trying to Be My Baby. Sounds alright. But lyrically there's not much going on.

I'm Down. Oh I like this one! Nice and upbeat even though they are singing about being down :pac:

Glass Onion. I like this. Still don't know what a glass onion is though

Yer Blues. Really like this. There's actually a story here, rather than a song repeating one or two line throughout. It's my second favourite now

    Dig a Pony. Nice enough

Hey Bulldog. This is a great one. Funky from the start. Much better than above

The Fool on the Hill. I like this. Another slow one, but not boring slow. I don't know the difference in who's singing but I think it's Lennon here? I like whoever's voice it is anyway

You Like Me Too Much. Awh how romantic! It even makes me overlook the piano part that I find a bit dated for moi

Goddamnit.. Don't like any of the preceding 6 in this group, but I really like both of these.
    Sigh.

I'm loving this game. was Beatles barmy right through my teens, listened to them non stop and knew everything about them. Ran them in to the ground so I gave them a break for a few years and then again non stop for a while when they finally went on Spotify Christmas Eve 2013 or 2014 and since then I'd go through phases but I don't think there's been a year since I've been out of the top 5% of listeners. Revolution in the head was delivered about 20 minutes ago, bought the other day on someone on this threads reccomandation

Strawberry Fields. I really like this. Not sure what it's about though. Is it about drugs??

Stawberry Fields Forever is inspired by an area called Strawberry Fields that John knew growing up. It started off as a simple acoustic tune before ending up as a psychedelic song. Incidentally, this is one side of a double A sided single. The other side was Paul's own account of an area he knew growing up called Penny Lane.

It's Paul McCartney who is singing - quite different from John's voice! In fact, it is more or less a solo effort by Paul despite being credited to The Beatles.

Thanks a lot for that Declan :)

I think of every Tom, Dick and Harry being on drugs around that time because a lot of the music was psychedelic sounding, or stoner 'peace man' type stuff.

So if I don't understand a song, I just presume it has something to do with drugs :pac:

Here, There and Everywhere vs I'm so tired - I personally find Here, There and Everywhere a bit much. Even though I can understand why people like it and the melody is fantastic, that spooky ascending guitar is cool too. On the other hand, I like everything about I'm So Tired.

Help vs Strawberry Fields Forever -

The first of the really unfair ones.

Help is brilliant. It's so in your face from the start, every part of it is hook after glorious hook and it's such an honest song lyrically. Real sound of unmistakable desperation in the vocals too - "please, please help me". Fantastic song, pretty much faultless.

But yet, as soon as I hear the first note on Strawberry Fields, I'm sold. That sense of time slowing down, not mattering anymore and the way the song just kind of unfurls. The haziness, like a dream, the world play of the lyrics, the use of effects... I could go on and on. Easily one the top five Beatles songs for me.

Bloody cruelty that one of these songs must lose out. Goes to show how brilliant Lennon was. Two completely different songs, two masterpieces.

Good Day Sunshine v Blue Jay Way - I like the prominence of the drums and piano in Good Day, but much prefer Blue Jay Way: atmospheric, droning and weird.

Sun King vs Cry Baby Cry - Close enough this one. I've always got a feeling of suppressed malice from Sun King - his voice around the "everybody's laughing" part sounds so intentionally flat - but I prefer the creepy atmosphere of Cry Baby Cry of the two. It leads in unsettlingly into Revolution Number Nine on record.

Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby vs I'm Down - No contest here.

Glass Onion vs Yer Blues - Glass Onion is pretty interesting in that you can listen to Lennon try to intentionally undercut all the mythology, even as it was being formed - "here's another clue for you all/the walrus was Paul" - and the jaded acerbic tone of the song. But, I dunno, Yer Blues is a straight up banger.

Dig a Pony vs Hey Bulldog - I love Dig a Pony. The raw bluesy sound of it, how biting and cynical those nonsense lyrics sound - even though it kinda means nothing, it has an edge - the duetting vocals.

But, Hey Bulldog kicks arse on so many levels.

The Fool on The Hill vs You Like Me Too Much - You Like Me Too Much is nice and endearing in its complete guilelessness, but The Fool on The Hill blows it away.

Sorry I just realized I missed one song in Group E if it's not too late to count it.

I waffled about Good Day Sunshine, but didn't add in that I was to vote for Blue Jay Way
