Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    Two questions (asking for a friend). 1) when is the latest we can give a prediction? 2) does it have to be faster than last year?

    I have zero chance of beating last year. :(

    29:15 in November but I couldn't walk without a limp at the start of March. Back jogging now, but I don't expect much. Just doing it for something to aim for.

    I haven't attempted a 5k since 2016 when I ran a PB of 16.4x post DCM. I've missed four years since due to various injuries but I'm back running consistently since last summer and started doing a few sessions in recent weeks so this is as good an opportunity as any to see where I am. Estimated time off recent intervals would be 18.00.

    Must be a looped course or out and back. That's all.

    Net 0m descent or pan flat fine. Anything that looks obviously net downhill is a DQ!

    Honestly, if anyone wants to run down a big hill in a tailwind and call it a PB, up to you. Good luck beating that PB in an actual event! Pick a ligit course and all will be worth it :)

    Tell that to anyone who ever got a PB in the Bundoran 5km :D Literally all down hill...

    I don't think anyone will claim a time trial or a virtual race as a PB

    For reference, my lifetime PB is 18:39 and I ran 19:08 at the end of January.

    Have had a few ups and downs since then but back on my feet now and should have a shiny new pair of Zoom Flys arriving this week :-)

    Starting to roll now... hopefully it will as much pain and fun on the day as it was last year :)

    Taking a real punt at this one. Could be a great confidence boost for a 10k TT the following week or a crash and burn :confused: Anything close will be a lifetime PB

    Thanks for setting this up again, something to aim for!


    I've been struggling with a foot injury for all of 2021 and am going to do a hillier loop than last year, hence the slower prediction. I ran the loop at a very high effort level this morning on 19:37 so a very optimistic aim :pac:

    It’s impossible to find a looped course without a big hill in these parts . Is out and back ok?

    Or maybe we should add an elevation column for possible bragging rights/hardship complaints for some :p

    Enter your Cat or Name. We'll might update the challenge to make it fun and more competitive soon.

    Some ideas to age actual ages, classify results by cat, add elevation and there are the monthly challenge series points table to consider too. Maybe 20, 19, 18, 17 per Gender or per Cat (The O/60 lads will all score high :cool:)...

    Anyway just keep it simple now, add yourself or ask to be added to the table and we will get everyone on board first :)

    With no expectations regarding my time, I'm going to run it without the watch. Well, with the autolap turned off and just the distance field showing. Will be a dry run for future 5k's perhaps.

    Don’t forget AG ranking allows rudimentary performance comparison across categories and genders. All built into the spreadsheet. :)
