Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

What will happen to existing 076 numbers?

    Calls from landlines starting 1st Dec 2019 to 1850, 1890, 0818 and 076 (Non Geographic or NGN) numbers were included in call 'bundles' that included landline numbers, but if you did not have such a bundle or were 'out of bundle' then you paid high prices for such calls.
    1800 numbers are free.

    The NGN ranges, from 1st Jan 2022 will reduce to two (1800, 0818).

    My question is what happens to existing numbers in one of the 'dropped' ranges, such as 076 numbers?

    Will they suddenly stop working?
    Will some scheme to transfer those 076 numbers to 0818 numbering be put in place?

    I have been unable to find information on this.

    Has anyone got information or links to what is planned to happen?

    076 numbers assigned to consumers will probably be discontinued by the provider of that number...or maybe the phase out only applies to commercial use??

    One alternative for areas with poor mobile coverage is WiFi calling but that's only available on bill pay plans so there's an additional cost.

    Bypassing a mobile network with a portable number is probably one of the very few advantages of 076, the networks ruined it's usefulness by charging high rates to call 076 and other NGNs.

    Individuals using 076 numbers should contact their operator and arrange to switch to a geographic number.
