"The whole country is being encouraged to protect the environment" doesn't rhyme with that they build more coal plants in 2020 that the rest of the world combined.
It'll be interesting to see how they get on though.

Ah the standard knee jerk reaction / pub talk.

China adds more wind electricity per year than the rest of the world combined. China adds more solar electricity per year than the rest of the world combined.

The biggest power electricity plant in the world is in China. It is hydro (fully renewable / zero emissions)

China has almost one million pure electric buses. Ten times as much as the rest of the world combined. For reference, Ireland has just the one electric bus. Paddy loves his diesel.

Of course the country is far from perfect, but they are doing more than any other country to go renewables and to move away from fossil fuels.

They may be doing a lot for renewables (I don't know since no sources were provided (the very definition of pub talk)) but they are still one the dirtiest countries in the world, no matter how you want to praise them.
Do you want to elaborate on their strategy for battling pollution?

For instance China’s pollution is so bad it’s blocking sunlight from solar panels.

On topic, that car is a good cheap solution for China's middle class and probably will help reduce China's impact on the planet and causing climate change.

Yes, apologies, that term was uncalled for, particularly as you provided a link and I didn't :D

China uses 80% more electricity than the USA (but far, far less electricity per capita)

    Linky

China produces more than 100% more renewable electricity than the USA

    Linky

And this delta is increasing. So China - still dirty but already using a much higher percentage of renewables - is becoming cleaner, quicker. And of course pollution just disappears when you stop burning stuff.

Thanks, that does fit with an effort to clean up.
I'm not entirely convinced but that's a discussion for another forum.
