I was at the airport today for work purposes and while Gardai were stopping cars approaching the terminals they didn't ask much (you could just say you are collecting someone as I did for example).
Inside the airport the desk before security was unmanned.

At some point manpower usage is an issue. People are fully legally entitled to leave the country if they just say they're going to a funeral, or a wedding, or a medical appointment, or any one of the other listed valid reasons. So if the vast majority of people are now doing that then theres no real point to the garda presence - they could be better used actually investigating crimes etc.

Was talking to a few people with apartments to rent in Spain for April. Very cheap prices for a month and they were informing me about the local restrictions and how life is over there at the moment. No comparison to the current situation in Ireland.

The thought of getting my haircut and sitting outside at a bar or restaurant and possibly interacting with people is a lovely thought.

Hi guys, my girlfriend is heading to dublin airport tomorrow morning to catch a flight back home.

The flight is at 8.30am so will probably need to arrive by 7am. Just wondering if you guys know if I am allowed to drop her at arrivals or she will need to get a taxi.

I was thinking maybe because its a Sunday and early in the morning that there may not be a checkpoint at the airport.

Any help or advice appreciated guys!

Adult online renewals not requiring submission of paperwork are being processed.
    e.

I’m not so sure about that - I’ve used the online chat twice to ask them and confirmed they’re not processing anything at all.

All of British Columbia to get their first shot by June now, brought forward from September.

My hope of a trip home for August seem that bit brighter.

    August 2022 maybe

    This August ? Not a chance ...

Sounds like essential travel. No need for cloak and dagger tactics. Take it easy and safe travels.

    Who said that?

They put in controls to restrict travelling, and so numbers are down. Hence the controls are working. When said controls are removed then the numbers travelling will go back up.

It shouldn't be that difficult to understand to be fair.

I flew out 2 weeks ago on essential, there is a garda checkpoint just after the entrance to T2 short term parking so it avoids contact and went through priorty boarding no checks so had no interaction with gardai.

With a neg PCR test while hundreds of positives running around the country some unaware or irresponsible dont see any logic to stopping those leaving more effort into checks coming in in 1 year only difference is masks and hand washing see below the right way but we would be to stupid to do this.

Airport i arrived had a seating reception area before getting to immigration all entrants inc flight crews had temp checks and PCR certs checked, mine was rejected I was given 2 options return or take a test at €90 and wait 2 hours for result.
After neg result was I allowed to proceed.

Lock downs and fines as a surpression is all we have done in 1 year and will this time next year not even 1 extra hospital bed

Why did they reject the test you took?

TBH, that to me sounded like a genuine question, not an accusation. E.g., were you rejected because they thought your temperature was elevated, was there something out of place with the test (wrong type, lab not on their list, cert out of date, etc)? If people must travel I'm sure the more info they get about the potential pitfalls they may encounter the better it is.

Anyway, I wouldn't be boasting about meals out and aircuts, personally.

I had to read your post a few times in case I read it wrong but I was genuinely asking. I am abroad and have done more PCR test and will do it before I come back...I really was curious as to why they didn't accept it. Sorry if it seemed like I was taking the piss.

Judging by the number of likes for my question others thought I was messing about too :pac:

Am curious too as to why it was rejected, I had not heard of any rejections apart from a couple who went over the 72 hours by an hour or so.

Plenty of people in here have said that, that was the point of the post imo. About the 'thousands coming in', Dublin Airport being 'packed', naming countries where people were coming from when there wasn't even flights from there etc etc, some laser focused on the airports when cause of a lot of the problems are elsewhere.

Yeah the Garda that spoke to me was very very clear to make sure that the test was take within 72 hours of ARRIVAL ... not from the flight departure. So I assume people were perhaps caught out by this.

Looks like Majorca is allowing German visitors in for Easter. While I’m in favour of travel reopening this summer as more people are vaccinated, I think this is premature. B117 is starting to become dominant in Germany, France, etc. Why not wait until the wave is over instead of jeopardising the whole summer season in favour of 2 week Easter breaks for Germans, some of whom will bring the variant to Majorca while it’s circulating at a high rate there.

All the more puzzling because s/he gave a straight answer first, before editing it to that prize piece of obnoxiousness (followed by another one).

Good on ya. In my case I have to send the forms for my children after I did the online stuff, and it's this processing they're not doing. Still have the forms to send in as they said not to send while under level 5.

My reply was in response to a claim that no passports were being processed which is incorrect. Also there is a facility available if the need of a passport is essential and that includes children's once evidence is provided.
I was providing a factual answer to a claim , whereas yours sound decidedly sarky.

Just to add to this post, it looks like the German's have realised what they're doing isn't the best idea and are currently considering mandatory quarantine measures upon return...

    https://www.rte.ie/news/coronavirus/2021/0321/1205259-coronavirus-world/

"The new proposals appear directed at people considering holidaying in places, like the Spanish island of Majorca, which are not considered virus risk areas and therefore do not currently trigger a quarantine on returning to Germany.

Holiday destinations should be targeted "since we can expect that holidaymakers from many countries will meet in popular holiday destinations, letting Covid-19 variants spread easily," according to the draft plans.

Earlier, Stephan Weil, premier of Lower Saxony, told the RND newspaper group that the government's earlier decision to lift the travel warning for Majorca had been a "serious error"."

While I support reopening of travel once infection rates subside, and vaccinations take off - reopening travel during a wave of B117 is clearly counterproductive.

I came into the thread on the last page and hadn't realised someone had already discussed the children's passport issue. I did actually mean good for you for getting the passport. No sark was intended.

I haven't seen any such posts from anyone claiming that Dublin airport was packed. The figures are public as regards the drastic decrease in traffic through the airport compared to say 2019.

I have seen plenty of moaners claiming there were such posts, but that was pulled from their imagination.

Just because you might read another poster saying "loads of people are saying the airport is full", it shouldn't mean you just take that as given and then continue on the lie. Have a think for yourself.

Nice one. Imagining why I'm saying something rather than reading what I am. There's literally a thread called 'Can we get some ****ing control on the airports?', surely that should be much quieter now 'nobody is complaining about it'? There was a post last week saying they heard from someone that Dublin Airport was packed etc. Ah the yawn inducing 'think for yourself', while repeating the same stuff for weeks on end. Sort out your paragraphs too mate.

Reading the Independent today makes for grim reading. I anticipate we will see mandatory detention centre hotels applied to most incoming travellers by the summer.

The appetite by a sizeable portion of the Irish population is disappointing and fuelled idealism and scare mongering

Despite increase in cases domestically there’s still not a hint of any punishment for confirmed cases or close contacts for breaching rules

It’s easy for most to opt not to get on a plane so it’s easy to scream for quarantine

The suggest of quarantine for confirmed cases and close contacts though and let’s see who’s talking about civil liberties then
