Anyone buying goods off Brownells lately ? I want to order a few bits and bobs. But with the Irish Brownells gone, Brexit making ordering off the UK one more expensive, who do you order off ? Direct from the USA ?

    Germany in the past.
    brownells-deutschland.de

Still pricey, but they do have some stuff you just can't get elsewhere outside the USA.

I ordered from brownells-deutschland.de a while back. Took a while to get here, but it arrived.

Can you even access the US site? I started my account with them years ago but anytime i try to go onto the site it immediately flags my location as EU and redirects me.

Its asks you where you want to go. But i am right in thinking that the individual brownells don't carry any stock, and that it all comes from the USA when you order it anyway ?

    VPN is your friend.;)

RE it taking do long to deliver from Germany.
It seems to be SOP for Brownell's outlets in the EU to put in a monthly order from the US for all stuff wanted. It arrives, more or less every 21 days and has to be processed and cleared first by the Customs of whatever country you order it from. So if there are maybe 2thousand orders in one month and maybe 500 orders next month, it will be obviously cleared quicker by customs.

Then it has to go to the Brownells warehouse, be checked against paperwork to see can it be sent to you without running foul of national laws, packed and mailed out to you, and then add the efficiency of the postal service/couriers before it is on your doorstep.

Had this problem last Xmas, and an email got me this helpful explanation, of course not helped by the EU pandemic and lockdown and Brexit, as well as the Xmas rush.

So just build in a possible 21 to 30 day wait for your order as standard.

When i go to Brownells.com i get this:

    6034073

There is no other option or link on the page so i clicked "Visit Brownells Europe". So i click on it and it brings me to Brownells Ireland page but not the site. It then gives me a drop down menu and if i select Ireland i get a message to check with Brownells UK, Germany and EU, in that order.
But i am right in thinking that the individual brownells don't carry any stock
Would they not carry some stock. Has anyone ordered something that is listed as being in stock and something that is not and see if there is a time difference between the two arriving?

whats the story with "parts" seen as this is in courts atm?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,280 ✭✭✭tudderone

Is there no German or French or Italian equal of Brownells ? I know from being stung a few times buying tools from America, that you get hammered with import duty etc. I believe VAT will be charged on all goods imported into the EU from July this year, making things even more expensive.

Dunno about the French, never seen anything on the like in Germany.
Brownells is like a supermarket .
Getting parts in Germany without Brownells requires you going to every little specialist corner shop. And paying specialist prices, and then needing a qualified gunsmith to install them.

No use to us, but the Brits and the Americans are doing a trade deal to make movement of good easier. You would imagine with the big numbers of shooters and big firearms industry in most European countries, there would be a European Brownells.

If its what I'm thinking of that case has been sorted, thankfully to the shooters
    benefit.

I just linked to Brownells Germany, and Brownells EU above!.

Do you mean a warehouse in Europe so the stuff doesn't have to come from the states?

Gonna presume due to the precedent set by that case that at the very least, stocks/chassis, spacers and magazines(presumably so long as they are under 10 rounds after the SI 420 of 2019) are not deemed to be component parts.

    https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=115975805#post115975805

Article 1, section 2 of the directive:
    https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/PDF/?uri=CELEX:32017L0853&from=NL
“essential component” means the barrel, the frame, the receiver, including both upper and lower receivers,
where applicable, the slide, the cylinder, the bolt or the breech block, which, being separate objects, are
    included in the category of the firearms on which they are or are intended to be mounted;

Relatively, for transpiled EU law to Irish, clear cut.
Thus anything not included in that list is, seemingly, deemed not to be an essential component.

So if you wanted to order a 10 round STANAG mag, without a licence for said firearm or an import permit you could because it is not an essential component.
If you wanted to collect such things that is.

Never forget, the end goal is zero firearms of any type.

The parts come from the States and are centralized in the European warehouse and sent out to the store that ordered them , if you order from say Germany it doesn't always go straight to Germany from the States.
If you click on an item in Brownells stores it most likely will say delivery from European warehouse. But they will have to receive your item into that store first.

You sort of misunderstand me, not a Brownells based in Europe, but someone setting up a warehouse selling parts made and sourced in the EU. I was looking at tools on the American ebay last night, and between post and duties, it nealry doubles the price of things.

Gotcha. Not necessarily Brownells just a similar set up but EU based.

Stop will ya. Looking for a part, non shooting related and i can find it in the states and the UK with ease. Between VAT, customs (its over 150), shipping (the VAT & customs on that), handling fee and all the other crap on it it'll stand me twice the asking price once in. Would buy it here if i could find someone but i cannot.

Will never happen... We just don't have the market size for European gun owners to want say different "made in the EU" Ar 15 parts.
If we need critical spares for our predominantly European makes we contact the dealers directly for those. They dont really bother that much with accessories for their "perfect products" as all makes will claim here.:D Its perfect form when it left the factory, why would you want to improve it?
[Apart from buying our own brand of expensive accessories for it of course!]:P

I ordered from Brownells UK 3 weeks ago, they are not allowed to post to Rep. of Ireland, got it sent to an English address, still has not arrived, contacted them the other day, got an email today stating that they (UK) have ordered my items from the USA and I had just missed the shipment, they only ship to Mainland Europe once a week from USA, so my order will be in the next shipment, I did not know about Brownells Germany at the time, Brownells UK are waiting on an export licence to ship to Ireland since they have now exited EU

    My email from Brownells
    Dear Sir/Madam,

Your order has been dispatched by Brownells USA and is in currently in transit.

As stated on checkout, all orders are shipped from Brownells USA hence the lead time, we aim to achieve delivery in 5-7 working days after dispatch. The tracking will not show until ParcelForce have received the order from customs and scanned it into their system and it will state on the ParcelForce website:

'Tracking status: Advised. We have no tracks for your parcel yet. The status of your parcel will be updated in due course.'

The EU shooting market is too small to hold over 60,000 products in stock, therefore we have to ‘drop ship’ from Brownells USA (this is done for all the European Partners, Brownells France, Germany etc). All prices include duty, vat and excise.

Compared to 300 +/- million owners with 500 million guns in the US, and whatever Canada has as well???:pac:
Yes, there is a potential market, but if it is worth doing, why has bo one done it yet in the EU?
Probably first off, we don't have a "European gun" to rally around, like the US has the AR15 and the 1911,both of which have everyone and their granny making different models for and accessories for as well, which you can base an industry on as well. We don't have that sort of totem in the EU gun world.

Where and for what brands of guns will you have this warehouse of parts for,and what parts will they be?
Apart from their main enemies of politicians and rust, guns are pretty stable and long-living items, and usually, the parts that render them INOP can be built by a good gunsmith. If you want to pay for it.
Now, what might be a better EU operation would be something like Gunparts.com AKA Numerich arms. Where you buy in the scrappers from gun dealers, police evidence lockers, military etc, and part them out to people looking for replacement both in the EU and the US?

In fairness there are some places in Europe doing spares, just not on the same scale as the USA.

Ferkinghoff are good folks. Ordered a few hard to find bits from them over the years.

Pricey like Brownells, but also one of the few places that have a decent set of US parts in stock and can order more.
