Bergara B14R .22LR

Hi everyone,

Anyone out there shooting a Bergara b14r in .22lr?

I have a HMR in 6.5 creedmoor and was thinking of trading my Cz 455 for a b14r as a trainer rifle.

What’s people’s opinions? How do they shoot?

All the YT reviews I've seen seem to be favorable and there's a good few now. Chris Parkins had a minor issue with the firing pin strike on his test rifle being too light. I was following this model myself but same as you I don't know anyone in my circle who has one.

I was thinking of getting that Bargara .22rl but after looking at Chris Parkings videos on both rifles (he bought the CZ

), and other YouTube videos I bought the new CZ 457 LRP. I've yet to get out to take a few shots.

Yes any reviews I have watched have been very positive, my b14 HMR is a great rifle and I’ve no doubt the b14r would be the same, have yet to see any tho around this country .

Father in law has the Bergara.

Phenomenal rifle, cycles and shoots really well.
The ability to use Rem 700 parts is a super plus point.

Accuracy out of the box was amazing too. He uses CCI Subs and SK Match.

That’s great to hear, yes I think the fact that it’s in a full sized action is the primary plus and will be the perfect trainer. Any ideas what price their going for? I’m expecting similar enough to the HMR

I seen them for €1,450 on Dominick Byrne’s website.

I actually went back and checked, hate to be doing anyone a disservice. Yea €1450 but when you think of it, it's a full blown rifle in terms of build.

Oh yes I’m fully aware, it’s just odd that the HMR, which is the centre-fire version of the same rifle rifle, is actually cheaper.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like I was explaining the reason, I was more just chewing the fat! Tis a fair penny for a rimfire that doesn't say Anschutz on it.

Beautiful rifle all the same, I’m very impressed by my Bergara so if the .22 is any of the the same I’d be very happy, might hopefully get a look at one after this torture ( sorry lockdown) is over

I'm debating:

Tikka T1x
CZ 457 LRP
Bergara

Tikka being the cheapest option but once you add on the cost of a KRG stock yer not to far away from the cost of a Bergara.

I narrowed my choice down to the Tikka t1x, a cz 457 varmint or a bergara barreled action.
I would be putting whatever I bought into a krg bravo chassis.
I must of watched every YouTube video and read every review and I still couldn't make up my mind.
I ended up going for the Tikka as I would be using the rifle for hunting as well as targets and I didn't want anything too heavy.

I've a CZ 452 Lux which I'm sick of swapping between the standard stock and a Klinsky so looking for a heavy target style setup.

Yeah I thought about the whole swapping stocks and barrels thing but decided i wanted something I could just grab and go shooting.

It doesn't work, at least not for me. For example: Set up for targets, Klinsky stock, Area 419 20 MOA rail*, Nightforce Scope. Friend rings me up wanting to go for a rabbit for example. Swap stocks, whip off the scope, put on Leopold 2.5x20. Well now I have to go and zero first. Pain in the hole.

*The Area 419 20 MOA rail is for a 455 but fits the 452 Lux.

But a mans got'a have wot a mans got's have..
Factory 50m by 5 shot group printout using RWS ammo was 11mm, 4 rounds touching and 1 round just opened up the group a tad.

11mm, that’s serious! I’ll have to wait till things open up and have a fondle of all three before I make up my mind.

If id had the budget, especially after shooting the father in laws one, I'd be buying a bergara. Any review I've seen puts the t1x against the 457 in same price range etc. 1450 I think is for the carbon barrelled version.

My budget was far lower and I decided on the t1x. I've an mdt lss-rf chassis on order with Barry in Be Outdoors.

I didn't actually see a barreled action for sale but I assumed they were available as they are in the USA but maybe not.

I know how you feel feel. The cz lrp looks great but I really wanted a bravo chassis.
I also thought about buying the cheapest cz457 which is the synthetic stock model and selling the stock and barrel and buying the fluted match barrel and krg stock.
In the end I just bought the tikka.
I'm still waiting on my sub to come through, we have a new FO and things are moving very slowly

I'm waiting on a price for a CZ 455/457 16" flutted barrel (keep the weight down a bit) with the match chamber.
If I can afford one I'll put it on my CZ 455 for benchrest comps. if it keeps under the 8.5lb weight limit.

Quick update,

Have just collected my new B14r today after a 4 week wait for the licence, and I must say it’s a beautiful rifle, goes nicely along side my HMR

Looking forward to hitting the midlands to try it out

I have one as well, lovely rifle however I had a bit of a journey to get where I needed to be with it. Further to the below I've seen reports of flyers like the ones I was getting on Youtube and on various forums. Flyers are one thing, a bad round or shot or whatever but what I was seeing was random shots appearing.

Accuracy wise now it's me if the bullets are not in one hole at fifty. At one hundred while I have shot half inch groups however on command I can shoot one inch groups. However I do need to go through all the ammo testing again.

One thing that's a plus and a minus is Remington aftermarket parts compatibility. The trigger will bottom out somewhere between two and two and a half lbs. Grand but there is no quick spring trick like a CZ. Depending on what you want the rifle to do yer down another chunk of change for a new trigger that may or may not work. They are not 100% reliable to function.

If it's a case of the CZ not being accurate enough I don't think the Bergara is an instant upgrade, although maybe that particular rifle would be? Purely my opinion however I think the difference between the current Tikka, CZ and Bergara rifles is down to the one you pick up off the shelf.

Bottom line, would I get one again? I really like it but part of me is thinking an old 1710 would have been the way to go.

So far I’m very happy with it, from the start it was a great shooter straight from the box. It one holes at the 50 and is shooting an inch at the 100 all day long with the right ammo.

Recently I started to shoot clays at 300m and once dialled in this was no problem at all.

I think the biggest difference I noticed between my previous cz455 and the Bergara is when shooting beyond 100m. The Cz really struggled to be consistent at further ranges but the Bergara holds strong.

I do occasionally get the odd case not ejecting fully, but I find that it’s solved if you work the bolt fast and don’t be too soft with it. I wouldn’t call this a problem as it’s only happened maybe 3 or 4 times with over 1000 rounds out through it .

Overall I’m very happy and it’s the perfect trainer rifle for my 6.5 centrefire.
