My favourite are the "silencer" sounds -Phhttt, Phhttt.

But on a side note, when I was applying for my .223 and wanting a moderator I gave a reason that I didn't want to disturb livestock when shooting, my RFD invited the Super ( who lives very close to him) to hear the sound of a "silenced" rifle. Job done.

Magazines in movies/TV hold about 1000 rounds each.
The gun users can track their target through a scope from a standing position without a single shake, they practically have hydraulically damped limbs.
Scopes have 1000 X magnification.
Bullets don't kill the hero - they merely enter and neatly leave their bodies leaving nothing but a bad cut for an injury, the exit wounds are clean, the bullets never expand nor tumble or smash bone.
If it's a scoped rifle being used - the elevation turret must be incessantly adjusted both up and down.

He is carrying a side by side shotgun and just before he enters the drug house, as he is lifting the shotgun, someone decided it would be more theatrical to add a sound effect so stuck in the "Ka-chunk" sound of a pump action being racked.


One of my personal favorites, from a while back, was discovery channels rendering of a bullet going down a barrel.

That is because on TV guns are being used as weapons not tools.

Modern-day
shooting pistol gripped pump shotguns from the hip. Wholly inaccurate in real life.
Ditto for the hold above the wall, window,etc SMG /assault rifle and just waste ammo randomly spraying bullets at your enemy.

Utterly bizarre and incomprehensible scope reticles.

In a World were the intelligence agencies were gleaning thier Intel off the media and then briefing the media based on this Intel, what do we expect.

My favourites are muzzel flashes even pre CGI. Purely for theatrical effect as are most on screen explosions, especially the cars that fall off the cliff and nearly always explodes.
But a common gun one is when the character very purposely racks back the slide on a semi auto pistol and moments later for dramatic effect and usually to drive thier point across thumbs the hammer to the rear. Similar faux pas are made in countless scenes were the character has a bolt/pump/lever action fire arm that they have just chambered a round on screen and then, again for a sense of drama, they recock and chamber a round.

Although who doesn't like the sound of a pump action being 'shucked', unless your on the buisness end of it. Ahhh I miss the old pump action, guaranteed to raise a few eye brows.

Also, when you would pump a pump-action to bring the cartridge up...you'd then place another cartridge in the magazine underneath to ensure it was full and ready for action......never saw that happening!

Another thing I hate is the persistent use of the Steyr AUG or the H&K G36 in sci-fi films. Naturally they have bits of plastic attached to them here and there but you can clearly see what the design is around. Great rifles but really is that what Hollywood things we will be still using in the 24th Century in elite military units ?

As well as the SPAS12 shotgun.But it shines in a movie prop gun role because it is absolutely useless and potentially dangerous as a real-life gun.

But using tarted up guns as some sort of futuristic zapper is nothin new. Albeit utterly annoying
The Imperial army in Star Wars were toting MG42s and Sterling SMGs.Han Solo's blaster is a Mauser C96, The Mandalorian is packing a Bergmann.

Aliens Space Marine corps personal weapons were Thompson SMGs in a clamshell housing,along with some modded pump shotguns as grenade launchers. Ditto MG 42s and Cpl Vasquez was using an HK VP0Z as her PDW.

Fire a single shot indoors at a range with no hearing protection and you'll be in pain. If the calibre is big enough, it'll rattle the fillings in your teeth.

The movies make it look like the bang from a bang stick doesn't affect your hearing.

John Wick fires billions of rounds indoors and outdoors with seemingly no effects on his hearing.

Much of the reason why you see the same guns time and again is because they are procured for shoot(filming) from the same specialist prop company time and again. I’ve been on a film set and seen the special firearms prop guy literally walk on set hand the actor the weapon, the shot is filmed and before the actor moves the firearms guy is straight back on set and takes the firearm from the actor.
Useless info, but Bruce Willis pistol in Die Hard was the actual same pistol used by Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon

At least it was a shotgun. I’ve heard the same sound for an unholstered handgun.

12+ shot revolvers were another peeve of mine.
Endless supply of magic self reloading magazines.

A big one that gets me. Is a large caliber firearm, or especially a shotgun. When shot at a target sends then flying off their feet and through the air. With zero reaction force on the shooter.
Somehow manages to get it wrong twice in two directions.
