Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Anywhere to find Dublin Bus expansion plans

    Hi all,

    Apologies if this is the wrong thread and if so, admin please delete.

    Is there somewhere that we can see any proposed plans for Dublin Bus expansion? I am currently Looking to buy a house in Newcastle but the stumbling block is that the area is terrible for buses so wondering are there any plans to improve this in the future?

    This is what is proposed as part of Bus Connects: https://busconnects.ie/media/2020/greystones-area-map.pdf

    This suggests that weekdays you'll have a bus to Greystones every 40 minutes (or 60 mins on the weekend), and you'll have 6 buses to/from Dublin before 8am and 6 buses after 4pm: https://busconnects.ie/media/1988/a3-frequency-tables-061020-fa.pdf

    Newcastle will have a route to red cow Luas. And route from tallaght to maynooth which Will pass through the village.

    Dublin Bus do not decide their own routes anymore, the NTA designs the network. Busconnects is a major, phased redesign starting this year.

    Saggart area on the map has the W6 Maynooth to Tallaght which will run every 30 minutes via Newcastle and the L56 every hour to the Red Cow Luas Stop. There's also an X56 which seems to be like the current 68x to the city centre which runs once in the morning and once in the evening rush hour.

    So a much worse service for those wishing to go to/from the city than currently, that's progress for you.

    In future the vast majority of Newcastle commuters will go via the W6 to Hazelhatch and change there onto heavy rail.

    There's a demand for orbital routes which are close to non existent. After Covid people will work partly at home, some closer to home as businesses will divert and be closer to residential places rather than focused to city centre only as it was before. Will be invested in rail more than ever before so I think overall the improvement will be much better. Current route scheme is ridiculous and built on the broken US standards rather than the Europe's.

    bus connects methodology is to create fast quality corridors, and connecting local routes to the corridor.

    Most people don't get a bus from their front door to the city, but you get faster arterial routes, and better interconnectedness on the 'spokes' so you don't have to go to town, and get a bus from town to get somewhere else in the city.
