    Hi all,

Currently I own a CZ452, love it, accurate and shoots really well. I think she is a keeper to be honest.

I've been trying to find an MDT Chassis for it. Found some new old stock of the Gen1 LSS-22 in Optics-Planet however they can't export. I have put a wanted ad on here, will see if anyone has anything lying around!

I've set myself on owning an MDT Chassis, so if I can't get one for my 452 I'll just have to get a second rifle won't I, ha!

Who has an MDT Chassis? What are you running in it? I have not been able to get my hands on one to try it for size or feel. I've had the opportunity to shoot a Bergara B-14r and it was sooo nice, they are available in barreled action only and being based on Remington short action, I could choose any of the MDT's.

I'm 6'2 so the benefits of a highly adjustable chassis appeals to me greatly!

    Thanks!
    Alan

You could have a company with itar authorization to export it for you if you really want it.
Ive contacted this company before to have them import 5 firearms and the price was extremely cheap.
Exporting may be expensive because of the license but you can always ask them and see what they say. I sent him a mail on Facebook and he sent me a quote in about 5 minutes.

Get in touch with https://beoutdoors.ie/ he does MDT, I'm getting a KRG Bravo from him. Just in the interest of transparency I do know the man well.

One thing about the MDT style chassis is people say you should get behind one before pulling the trigger on . (Excuse the poor pun). Fit and feel is much different than a traditional stock. Note I'm only parroting what I've read but from experience the MDTs do feel very different.

I have spoken to Barry several times over the last 2 weeks, very nice man to deal with on the phone. He told me Highland Outdoors recently got the contract for MDT and he would have a full new price list soon. I think my only chance to get behind one will be going down to him once restrictions end, I don't know anyone with one!

Please excuse my terrible wording, I was looking at something else at the same time. How would I be repeating what I read and speaking from experience at the same time. I'll edit now.

I'll take a review of what you read even. What was the article saying about how they feel?

I've tried a few different stocks over the years and one or two were great, some i felt gave no benefit and one, which i cannot remember the name of, was owned by a chap and to save what could only have been an insult to the guy i told him the stock was great and best of luck with it, when in fact i was wondering how he could use it because it felt like it was forcing my hand/arm into an unnatural position and was not comfortable at all.

Lets face it, at times it'd be kinder to insult a chaps wife than his rifle. :D

Reading on other forums from the far side of the pond lads seem to recommend getting behind one before getting one. But sure that would apply to any stock?
Another lad said about chassis being all angles and aluminium being cold in the winter.

I've contacted them, so far, it's $99 export license plus $25 on what it costs to ship from them to me. I've sent him a few more questions including cost of shipping.

Current exchange rate that's around €103 for the fees. The stock from optics planet is free shipping to him in Texas, so with sales tax, is still only €150ish. So depending on how much he charges to ship, it could be a runner.

Should be no customs duty because the stock, as per revenue, has an intrinsic value of less than €150 at time of purchase (intrinsic value is value of the item alone) so just vat to tack on.

And given the progress of another thread we have read, should be a simple produce license and pay vat deal once it reaches Irish shores. At least I hope so.

    Fingers crossed.

Haha I will! A pair of b*tch mittens will sort that.
Small sacrifice for potential accuracy and comfort I reckon!

I have an MDT Gen 1 stock with an Anschutz 1712 in it. It is the most accurate rig I have ever owned. It is very adjustable so I do not understand the "get behind" comments. The 1712 was previously housed in a McMillan Anschutz sporter stock and had won Sporting Rifle Bench Rest competitions in this set up, but adding the MDT stock elevated the performance. The target below was shot just before Xmas at 50 Metres on a still day from the bench with front and rear rests. As you can see, it is a possible 200/200 although one shot had to be gauged and was "in".

This echos what I read on Rimfire Central and some other sites like Snipers Hide. Beautiful rifle you got there and some amazing shooting to boot. What bipod and rail is that? I'll be using a basic buffer tube and butt-stock to start with, and I'll get the Carbine butt-stock from MDT later in the year. Have you tried the vertical Grip? That is definitely on my to try list.

My best group to date with the standard cz has been a 1/4 MOA at 50m. Done that once! My average sits at 0.75 MOA. I have plenty of areas I need to improve in and I believe the chassis eliminates mechanical inconsistencies allowing me to focus on my performance. Harder to blame the hardware then!

The only caveat in this is the Gen1 is drilled for the American model, while mine is a Standard, same as the trainer and the Lux model, so it will require an extra action screw hole drilled. That's minor compared to my original plan of buying a 455 chassis and milling the rear tang area to shape!

  • Registered Users Posts: 466 ✭✭badaj0z

The rail is an MDT Picatinny rail attached to the fore end with an Mlok. The Bipod spigot and Bipod are Fortmeier from Germany. The bag rider at the back is from MDT. The scope is a March 2.5 x 25.

Ok update; TXMGO seems to be a non-runner now too, AVS Card security won't allow me to pay them the export fee. Rage.

    Going to have to go down the route of a new rifle if I really want an MDT Chassis. As per MDT LSS-RF list I can choose;

Cz455, cz457, savage A22/B22/mkII, Ruger American, anschutz or tikka T1X.

I'm leaning cz or tikka. Seen brand new tikkas for 650/750 and between 500/700 for the cz new. I'd probably hafta trade on the 452 to keep wifey happy. Anybody got experience of these rifles? I've shot a 457 MTR, was nice and heavy. I have several mags for the cz so that is a bonus if i stick to cz. Never shot or held the tikkas.

Just had my new tikka T1 delivered today. Short barrel so my assistant can carry it. Cheapest tasco 3-9x40 until we can visit dealers and actually look through scopes.
Feck me, within 30mins I was putting rounds nearly through the same hole, at 25m. This is with cheap CCI ammo, a wobbly kitchen table and tasco reticle for moose??? It can only get better. Amazing out of the box accuracy.

Hmmmm interesting, I have been researching and the tikkas have gotten good reviews.

I have enough in the kitty to buy her with a trade in so I might start making some phone calls.

I handled a Tikka T1x in Outdoor Sports a while back. Lovely rifle. The bolt was very slick. Seems like everyone is making accessories for it now as well. DIP are doing a bottom metal for the mag to make it flush, there are bolt knobs, trigger springs, plus the Timney two stage for the T3 will fit it.

I'm thinking of trading in my sako quad as i want a 22 that I can put into a krg bravo chassis.
My options are the tikka t1x the cz 457 or the bergara b14 rimfire barreled action.
I'm leaning towards a cz 457 synthetic and then buying the cz fluted barrel with the match chamber.
I can't look at anything yet with this lockdown.

Brother in law has a 457, very slick bolt on that, his is the heavy MTR model, very stable. Father in law got his Bergara just before Christmas, absolutely phenomenal rifle. Beautiful to handle and shoot. But it's €1400. I can't afford that in one hit, a barreled action is €850.

I've resided an MDT won't happen for the 452 so next step is trade up for a tikka and get a chassis later in the year.

Any difference in accuracy between the mtr and the bergara?

Yes, Bergara all day long no question. It beats his custom Kidd 10/22 easily too. The bergara is the trainer model with adjustable stock, Steel barrel. I've not heard if the carbon wrapped barrel is any better or worse though.

To be fair the brother in law has only got his 457 since October, so still getting used to it and finding what ammo it likes.

When the father in law shot both guns side by side the bergara won hands down but we only have 50m. Result is a sub moa group Vs a clover leaf.

I only bought the basic mtr tikka. Not their new fancy upr with the precision type stock. Havent seen the upr version advertised here yet

Any review or video I've seen has been the MTR, I saw the upr on their website and yes she is pretty, but my end game is a chassis for it. So unless they were near the same price it wouldn't be worth it for my own plans.

To top it off I'd like to get the ball rolling soon and have my sub paperwork submitted during this last stretch of lockdown, hopefully will pan out nicely to have the tikka for the reopening of the ranges.

Btw what sort of break in did you do on your barrel? Read all sorts of ways over on Rimfire Central, not really sure what would be best?

  • Registered Users Posts: 276 ✭✭kunekunesika

    Barrel break in??
Wish you hadn't asked me that.
Considered trying stuff on you tube, once I saw dark arts were involved, I went pure red neck. I just put bullets in it, and shot away????
    Starting to feel bad now.....
Go gentle with the recommendation s

  • Registered Users Posts: 247 ✭✭alan0387

Haha ok forget I said anything! It's ok rimfires don't need break in! Slowly backing into a hedge Homer Simpson style.......

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,597 ✭✭✭Feisar

To be fair there are dark arts involved in centerfire break in as well. I just go with a good scrub and shoot away. Although CZ's need a bit of work to get cosmoline stuff out.

What length barrel did you get? Seems to be available 16" or 20"

The 16" in a chassis with a mod looks really well but if we go function over form, 20" seems so be the universal go-to for accuracy?
