Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    The better half would like to take up rifle shooting, trouble is she is all of about 60 lbs dripping wet in her winter clothes and is ultra petit.[A few of you have met her up in Midlands with me betimes,so you will have an idea of her size.:p]

    So I need a very lightweight .22 and the little AR would suit her down to the ground.OK not the most accurate tak driver on the rack,but weight is what I'm looking for and simplicity of operation.Any other suggestions for a lightweight simple action rifle would also be considered,in or about the 200 mark,which is one I could afford from the UK...But if there is one for sale here it would make life easier too.

    Has anyone of you got, seen or licensed one here? I know for a while that the DOJ refused import licenses on them because they had the word "survival" in their name. However, that was to a dealer about a decade agoso possibly things have changed?

    What about something like the Browning SA22.

    Probably the lightest SA .22 I have ever held, quite accurate as well, I think they are around the 5LB.

    How about a Ruger takedown. Comes in at about 4.5lbs (so only a little heavier than herself :D ) and easily got. Not inside your budget but i've seen them for €450-ish.

    Saves on import and the hassle of the "evilblackgun" stigma attached to so many others.

    Of course you could always blow the budget out of the water and look at the S&W M&P15-22 but at around €700 may be way outside your comfort zone, however going by all accounts, and i've held one so can verify, its light. Under 5lb.

    If the little lady wants to take up shooting then let her pick her own gun that she likes and that suits her, so your going to have to take her to some dealers and to the range when all settles down and I have no doubt that anyone with a 22 on the range will let her have a shot.
    IMO she like any shooter deserves input into what they are going to shoot with, ohhh and with all the money you have saved with the lockdowns buy her the M&P lol.

    Indeedy...Thing is;we used to have one of the AR7's in CA when we lived there and she liked it back then.As it was such a lightweight rifle. We certainly will tour the gun shops again,but it really is a problem to find lightweight guns for small statued folks here.

    I done a fair bit of googling but the best I could come up with was a CZ 452 Scout in the UK. Nothing really going here on the small side. I think I saw a Scout here one time fadó fadó.

    Hey Grizz,

    Have you considered the Browning Buckmark?

    Obviously, much depends on what your good lady wants to use it for, but the Buckmark rifle is light, easy to shoulder, easy to get parts and accessories for, and a fun little gun to shoot etc.

    I know it's a bit above budget, but there should be a few second hand ones for sale in Ireland, so no need to import.

    I had a 452 scout up until last year, very popular in the US for squirrels

    Just on a point of interest has anyone had any problems licensing either the Buckmark carbine or the takedown browning with this "restricted " Bs in recent times? The reason I'm asking is with 4 restricted firearms and her being more or less living here as her 2nd address,as she commutes between two households.i doubt my CS will be happy with me adding a fifth to my household:eek:

    I used to have a 10/22 Tactical Target (later sold to Gunhappy). Short barrell, lightweight, short suppressor, red dot as well to keep the weight down.

    I was always sorry I sold it as it was so compact and light and yet very accurate.

    My other half loved it as she finds full size rifles even a CZ 22 just to big and awkward.
