    NPHET are having a laugh

Moving to Level 5 is ‘only’ way to control Covid-19 and keep schools open - NPHET

Letter to Minister for Health says current measures failing to get a handle on disease

"It says NPHET is sensitive to the impact on businesses, individuals and families but that the action is “the only opportunity to get this disease back under control while keeping schools open”.

Ha very sensitive alright. They don't care about the impact on businesses, individuals and families

"It says a graduated approach would ultimately result in Level 5 measures being put in place, whereas an immediate enactment of the harshest measures will prevent deaths, protect vulnerable people and enable schools to remain open."

    They must be fortune tellers

Going to level three won't work without trying it
Going to level four won't work without trying it
Nah lets go direct to five

“The proposed measures will only be effective if there is broad societal buy in and adherence over the coming four week period,” it warns.

Ha good luck getting that NPHET

    What a bunch of muppets

Tony Holohan and NPHET don`t do wind ups.

243 out of 281 ICU beds taken

    that alone justifies level 5

Well if retail closes with no idea when it reopens then they're just doing the Christmas shop to try and have some sort of Christmas. Can't begrudge anyone that.

Different story to the supermarkets that'll be open regardless.

I don't know if this means a graduated approach introducing on a measure by measure basis Level 5, or do we go up through the Levels to arrive at Level 5?

That all goes back to residential, what is the justification for shutting down our economy again?

That's why Tony had hit the nuclear button now rather than waiting a few weeks

Its a damming stat on the HSE to be honest, and government that 281 is the non surge capacity limit

And less than 10% from COVID patients. We were already in a healthcare crisis then, seems any major multi vehicle road traffic accident or a mass shooting would have put our health services over the edge

Why are the people who constantly say NPHET recommend, government decide so furious with NPHET? They're doing their job. You can disagree with them but not like government doesn't have an opportunity to decide itself between oversight committee and Cabinet.

I'm reading it as going up the levels seeing as they're skipping level 3 and 4 to go straight nuclear at 5

Let’s call a spade a spade - we are going to have to suspend our lives for 4 weeks because 150 people being in hospital with Covid-19 (not all necessarily sick from it) and 21 in ICU is threatening the stability of our shambolic health system. No surprise to anyone who is aware of how bad it is but it’s absolutely pathetic stuff.

Paris moving into “lockdown” also but they are allowed to keep restaurants open with strict health policies. These are no more than 6 to a table, contact details held for contact tracing and masks on when not eating. Basically what we’ve had from day 1 of them reopening with the exception of masks being more gradually introduced.

Oh yeah if you've nothing to say come back with a stupid emoji.

Can you not see the logic non essential retail v essential?

Best off getting a few things just incase they don't reopen for a good while. Panic buying in supermarkets pointless as they stay open.

I am only back to work today after having to self-isolate for two weeks (close contact). I am a public servant, and I have been working at home a lot since March. The novelty has long worn off. All indications we are getting is to prepare for level 4.

I was so looking forward to getting back to the office today after being couped up for 2 weeks.

Now I am looking at being back home again for another month. As even at level 4 I will be out of the office.

Yes I know I am fortunate that my job is secure, but this working at home stuff is hard on the mental health. Would much rater be doing the commute and coming into work every day ( I would love to have a time machine and go back and show the me from January this post lol)

Their rationale is probably that it's being brought into residential settings from outside?

If the whole point is keeping the schools open, its pointless as if we go to level 5 the teachers will refuse to work. The unions will never ever allow it.

Hard not to agree with the 2nd last point about underfunding, decades of lack of investment. The main thing driving level 5 is that our ICUs are nearly full. They are health committee focusing on health. It is up to the Gov to figure out the rest.

I dunno, as discussed above, funding does not seem to be the issue, we spend a lot of government money on healthcare as it is. Countries that spend less than us have much better healthcare systems. I think it is less a money problem and more an organisational issue. If we could wipe the slate clean and create a new service from scratch, leaving all the legacy inefficiencies behind I think our current funding would be fine....not possible to do that I know, but I just don't think funding is the real issue when you look at how much we spend.

Get up early and go and sit in your car an for an hour or so before you log on.

Apart from the shocking economic devastation it would bring to workers and their families with a ripple effect in many other industries, it would be a good thing for the country

Yes long term it would. I wouldn't lose any sleep at all.

Nphet is there to carry the can for decision making on covid

The problem for MM and co if they go against level 5 is that they're now carrying the can and can be blamed for anything that goes wrong henceforth

But there is a committee in place to make recommendations to government - thats where the deflection will take place
