Asia, Korea, Taiwan etc, do things we can't do, so comparisons are a bit pointless.

I would imagine there is greater public compliance in those countries well as much better enforcement. Here it's more suggestions and and a reluctance to want to deal with anyone who doesn't go along with them.

Probably 150 to 250 cases not reported yesterday, if they add them on today possible 850,more likely to hold back again today and announce level 4 across the country with 1000 cases tomorrow

George on rte radio just positing that the conclusion many will draw from this sudden shift is that the government failed to add capacity to ICU in the summer so Nphet are now panicking it'll be overwhelmed quickly.

Maybe we should start building the boarder infrastructure that will inevitably eventually be needed.

Perhaps the stupidest post you've ever put in this site, and you've had some doozies.

First off not only is that illegal (against the GFA) and not only would that be incredibly expensive (have you any clue how many crossings there is) you do realise this covid crisis is not going to last forever yes?
We literally have farmers who march their cows through the border to get to different fields.

Sure, but that's cultural. Some of what individual countries do would be tied up in court here. I'm still of the opinion that most of us are doing our bit. Some people are letting their guard down, not thinking or have gone back to normal in their lives or are not following guidelines.

Wait another week or so and see how things are throughout Europe then.

Try and look at patterns and how its progressing in all countries. In a few weeks the situation will be far worse. Better to act quickly now. This is what living with Covid is like. Its not going to get any better. Its why I support Zero Covid approach which maybe easier in the nxt few months with rapid testing and maybe a vaccine/treatment that can help somewhat

Spain should be going into a full lockdown, but probably won't.

Phase 5 to be announced by MM at 9 PM tonight?

7 months into this and it beggars belief how appalling the communication about the handling of this virus still is.

If the country wasn't driven half mad already, a letter like that out of the blue late on a Sunday evening, I find it hard to believe that the people we entrust to handle this thing, think that is a suitable way to do business.

    Mind-boggling idiocy. It really is.

You can't even send a fcuking letter to me Zealand, let alone get in.

We share 300 mile non controlled land border with another juristiction.

How do you propose to square that circle?

This way. We don't get to choose what emergencies we have to deal with. If we did it would be kinda easy.

Well then they aren't taking public health advice

“Advice” being the operative word. Just one input into the decision making process of the government.

NPHET wasn’t in charge last time I looked

I have to wonder if the situation last night was bad enough for level 5 how did Thursdays meeting decide level 2 was sufficient.

Surely the situation didn't worsen that much. They should have been able to put the call for nationwide level 3 and level 4 in the worst areas at least on Thursday.

A recommendation like that was always going to be leaked.

Difference is the return of Tony.

This is the puzzlement about this. It's the real lack of warning about it.

Here's a chart. Not hard to see where the recommendation is coming from.

Most probably, a bold if very divisive move. Puts an uncomfortable light on NPHET and what they are doing.

Of course it was, so suitable caution should have been taken. Might have been excusable 6 months ago, it really is just incompetence at this stage.

I doubt it will be phase 5 but phase 4 being announced by the Govenment by tomorrow evening is quite likely.

For counties with less than a case a day....

I'd agree on that. I'm quite baffled, given how well they managed the early stuff, that something like this emerged in such a sloppy way.

Yeah the numbers were worse on Friday and Saturday but not enough so. If that was enough to go from 2 to 5 the gaps between levels is too small and they might as well throw out 4 completely as it will never be used.

Asia doing ok too with a higher population than Europe. South America had very lax restrictions along with Iran and India. Both very high death counts and society not functioning . Western society seems to be in the middle ground atm, should probably follow the what they did in Asia to suppress this

Uruguay doing very well(better than us) in SA, even though they have a land border with basket case Brazil.

The BOSS is back. Get used to it guys. I heard the first thing Dr Tony did when he got back into his trusty old swivel chair was ring the teashock and reduce him to tears. Total ledge btw, he has all these grown men running around him like groupies backstage at a Justin Bieber concert.

    WTF are people doing?
Great that you won a match but you are harming everyone.
It's your town's businesses that will suffer.
    Will we ever cop on.

It's mad to think that they haven't even tested how level three nationwide would not not to mind level four nationwide before advocating for the nuclear option of level five
