A lobby group has basically threatened the government to shut the country down. There are times when you have to defend the motherland.

They want to usurp out way of life to theirs. This is a Coup attempt. Defend the motherland. Through ALL means necessary

    Steady on there.

    Where’s the threat?

What exactly is “their” way of life?

If another lockdown is to happen then it's better we do it soon and bring cases down quickly as we did before, we might even be able to enjoy the few months around christmas with some sense of normality then.

The worst case scenario would be a slow creep up through the phases over the next few months inevitably stretching towards level 5.

Couldn't agree more. We might just be able to salvage Christmas, if we get our act together. Other countries have done a far better job of this, so time to start emulating them.

Do people not realize that suppressing and rapid testing is our only way out of this . No society is functioning with high levels of transmission. The ones that are have the virus suppressed at extremely low levels. We need a plan that involves much more efficient testing and tracing and greater surveillance of the virus at airports. The alternative of living with high transmission rates will lead to society as we know it falling apart.
Their is a reason every country is now doing this. Immunity is much more complex than just being immune from infection again. People on here acting like Ireland is the outlier compared to every other country. People need to start taking the virus seriously rather than playing some pathetic blame game yet again. Iv noticed the posters on here who are much more knowledgeable about the virus have a similar view

The Gov, Nphet whatever can decide on Level 5. But who will enforce it? Genuine question.

22,000 cases in the UK today of which 15,000 are backlogged

Absolutely shocking. Things are deteriorating across Europe.

If there was a move to L5 would the private hospitals remain open as private hospitals?

This is pure nonsense and you should be ashamed.

    1) They're no a lobby group.
    2) They haven't threatened anyone.
    3) Level 5 is not shutting the country down, EG schools remain open.
    4) No idea what the usurp comment is supposed to mean.
    5) A coup attempt would involve someone other than the legitimate government saying that they're the government now. Nobody has done this.
    6) The rest is dangerous nonsense and could be interpreted as call to violence. You need to have a long hard think on what you're about here.

A lot if people feel they are being punished for the other half of the country not adhering and you're probably right, I know many people not following the guidelines, making multiple trips to retail and hospitality locations, seeing multiple people, it's all about personal responsibility tbh.

Yes, I'll happily take level 5, as I'm already living a level 5 life, with vulnerable members in the home. I've had no one in our house since March and in the last month I've only had contact with two other people for essential purposes, along with one trip to a post office, again, an essential trip. I should have added all of this to my earlier post welcoming back Tony.

I believe they recommended it to try and avoid an April scenario where we had around 5000 cases a day (didn't get them all) which led to a higher hospitalisation ratio. By locking down earlier they avoid having to have a 3 month lockdown or more and possibly have some sort of Christmas? I don't think people realise if we had the level of testing we do today back in April we would have 5-6k cases a day

However, I do not agree with how they are going about it. Notice is required to allowed businesses to prepare and possibly adapt yet again if possible as they have done in the past. Going full out is not the way to do it. But saying NPHET are trying to purposely destroy the country? If you think that, I think you also need to have your head checked, same as if you are pro lockdown within 12 hours notice type of person

Scandalous that this has been announced before discussions have taken place between Nphet and the government.

If they believe we should go to level 5 recommend it and have the government announce their decision. The leaked reports are seriously damaging ****ing with peopl

FFFG have abdicated decision making to The NPHET all through this crisis and will continue to do so.
Tomorrow will be a national level 4

Level 5 will come at the mid-term.

No one in Government will stand up to them, not turncoat Donelly, Spineless Martin, sleepy Ryan or spin Dr. Leo.

The underlying issue here is we have a barely functioning health service, in which they twiddled their thumbs around for the last 6 months.

I've seen this point made a lot. What would you have done different that they didn't do? More to the point, how much capacity can be built into the Healthcare system in less than a year to handle an illness like COVID as well as provide other normal services. Can you even train the required extra staff to the sufficent level and skillset in such a time frame?

There is no point trying to implement a level that they will very hard pushed to get people to follow. This is not March and the manner of the decision making of this will make it very hard for the government to enforce.

Then people will have a much longer and harsher lockdown later then.

Problem is the government has fully accepted every NPHET recommendation so far.

If they shut down construction again, I can see many companies pulling the plug on big expansion projects that are in progress.
Intel in particular are in the middle of biggest ever building project in this country. The last shutdown cost them 3 months delay which will cause delay on new products reaching the market.
Shutting down construction would be disastrous and not worth it.

Shutting down non essential businesses generally would also be disastrous. I think the government should just tell NPHET to come back with more specific targeted restrictions in the areas that need it most, and if necessary impose travel restrictions on a regional basis.

So Ikea is closed down but a packed classroom remains open?

Why is this question addressed at me?

But anyway yes. There's far more votes in keeping schools open than keeping Ikea open. Also, a school isn't randomers mixing like Ikea is.
