Pleased to hear the government are taking a stand

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,729 ✭✭✭✭Eod100

The three parties in government will never ever recover from this if they agree with level 5.

Would have to go through that oversight committee so will have a chance to be diluted. Be interesting to have access to data that NPHET has. Doubt they're doing it for the hell of it

Journal reporting level 5 now too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,667 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

The second part of that is important imo.
No way will they implement level 5 for the whole country...I would think
Are NPHET spooked by what is happening in other countries like Israel?

You think Sinn Fein are the worst party in the country? You'd wanna take off your blinkers.

As a traditional FG voter is almost give them a whirl now. They might actually listen to “the people” rather than steam rolling over us and speaking to us like we’re dog ****e

    This is like the Budget.

Leak one number, come out with a slightly lower number, everyone is happy.

Will probably be a Level 4.

If it is it's a very dangerous game when trying to convince people these measures are important

On Dublin - what are you seeing that I'm not?

The rate of doubling may have improved, but not to anywhere near where it needs to be.
You might have better stats than I have, but the case numbers I'm seeing for Dublin would suggest to me that numbers have begun to stabilise in the past week (which is when we'd have expected the Phase 3 impact to start kicking in). We also know that Phase 3 appears to have worked in Kildare.

Why is it always poor people on the dole that are to blame?

I think your detailed hypothesis says a lot more about your own personal prejudices than your knowledge of how respiratory pathogens spread.

I have no prejudice against anyone. Nothing I posted about this individual is untrue. I daresay I know as much as you about respiratory pathogen.

NPHET would be quite happy to have everyone locked indoors until the middle of next year. It won't affect their salaries.

My immediate feeling is that they won't get the same buy in again.

Obvious enough whats happening, NPHET recommend level 5, government go for level 4 and think people are stupid enough to think they are getting off lightly.

I think that would be kind of stupid of them if that is what they are aiming for.

Their credibility is poor enough as it is. Be even less people taking them seriously after this.

Yours is a rather orthodox viewpoint, but in my experience, there are many things you will simply not see if you're not open to them in the first place.

It's hard to guess at how they'll respond. One would imagine they'll try to work out a more nuanced approach. 4 weeks is a killer in so many ways.

They are in power in the North where the government has made a dogs dinner of managing Covid.

I heard a doctor on Brendan O'Connor's programme this morning slating face screens, saying they were worse than useless and should be banned. After hearing this, I decided not to use mine anymore and to stick to my regular face mask. This afternoon we had a lovely Sunday lunch in a well renowned restaurant in Limerick city. The staff were all wearing what I can only describe as micro face screens. They sit on the chin, as opposed to the forehead, cover the mouth but don't fully cover the nose. When the waiter leaned in to me to place cutlery, his uncovered nose was inches from mine. I thought I was being paranoid but the three 20 somethings in our family all agreed that these masks are "a joke". Has anybody else seen these?

Yes I have seen them . They are an absolute joke . How anyone with any degree of common sense could think they are any use is beyond me

I posted a link to official research on face shields/visors a while back: https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=114731852&postcount=2161 and that was about full visors, not the equivalent of a protective sport cup, only smaller! These are a piss-take, as well as a mistake.

I reckon the decision makers know that hard restrictions around meeting people will be nigh impossible to enforce around Christmas.
Best to go in hard over next month or so and hope the virus spread reduces dramatically to allow people to enjoy Christmas with family and friends.

I’ve been watching the nfl all evening so not been keeping up with news.Where did level 5 come out of ? Do NPHET know something the public don’t in terms of trends or something. That’s a bit of a shock.

You could be right...the UK keep pushing this "circuit breaker" strategy...

This is all theatre. Government probably asked Tony can you come back as you have more authority and things are getting tricky.. Nphet are the bad cops. Government are the good cops.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,023 ✭✭✭Gruffalux

Their thoughts might be.... Lock down hard now. Circuit break. Open up for the big spend pre Christmas and allow the gatherings. Then deal with the next mess in New Year.

Really wouldn't be surprised to see protests in Dublin like what occurred in Serbia this week if that actually goes ahead
