Suv /car for person with disability recommendation

    Hi
    We am planning on getting a new car in 2021. We need to get a high car like a suv to help a family member with a disability get in and out of the with little assistance. We also need a good size boot for a wheelchair. We will be getting a new car as We will be using the primary medical cert, but do not have a massive budget.
    We do a lot of mileage in the car so in the past always had desiel cars. Honestly we don’t know a lot about cars and are trying to learn and understand it all.

    We see there are various different types of hybrid cars and am wondering what is more economical a hybrid or a desiel car. We drive a 7 hour round trip to Dublin Regularly and we are in the car a lot unfortunately driving to the local city here which is about 1 hour each way . There is not day the car is not used. We live in a very rural location so a full electric car would not be a feasible option for us.

    Any advise or recommendations would be greatly appreciated?

    Budget? Buy it before end of October(Pascal budget's this month).He has plans for suv's.

    A cousin who's wife has Parkinson's has a Toyota rav4 hybrid which they find very good. Is it likely the person may not be always transferring from wheelchair to seat? If so a wheelchair access vehicle may be suitable. VW caddy etc are van derived cars suitable for that.
    If transferring from wheelchair to seat check the access features, some doors are larger than others, also suv may be high to be lifting wheelchairs in and out off as well.
    Awkward in current climate but going to see different cars ideally with the wheelchair and user if possible would be the best way of finding what suits.

    Thank you for replies so far.
    For the next number of years anyway we think the person will be transferring into the car seat. As after that I know we need to look at more of a van type as they will probably be using a larger wheelchair. They are very light so the transfer is easy enough at the moment.

    Also and thanks very much , when we go looking at cars which we are planing on doing in the next week or two. We always bring our relative with disability to make sure they find it as easy as possibly to get in/out if car due to seat height etc. that is our main priority and then Fuel economy is next as we do a lot of mileage.

    We will be leaving in a car and expect to get at least 20000e for it and really don’t want to add more than 4//5 thousand with that.

    Hybrid may not work either depending on the type of driving you do.
    hour here, 7 hours there is irrelevent.

    can you break down your typical weeks driving into distances and type of roads, for example, km of motorway followed by km of N roads.

    Thats the only real way to see what BEV, PHEV or just plain old Hybrid can work.

    It may be worth looking at a seat which can turn out towards the door. Will ye need the back seats? Some three door cars may have better front seat access as have a larger opening area. Ye may be eleigeble to claim back duty on fuel so a hybrid may be fine, as battery would power small trips and engine the long ones. Hybrids may be tight on boot space as battery packs can reduce it. Diesel won't be an issue either as ye would be doing regular long trips.
    Its really about access and space for ye so find the right shape/ type of car first and then ye can see what engine options are there.
